Ya think? My nephew is going to argue his case to the teacher today. Makes me laugh that she marks that wrong. Who in their right mind thinks that 6 x 5 and 5 x 6 are not the same thing?

"The first thing I learned upon becoming a head coach after fifteen years as an assistant was the enormous difference between making a suggestion and making a decision."
"They talk about the economy this year. Hey, my hairline is in recession, my waistline is in inflation. Altogether, I'm in a depression."
"I like to bike. I could beat Lance Armstrong, only because he couldn't pass me if he was behind me."
She must be related to my daughter's geography teacher who had lat/long backwards on a test. Not to mention her pronunciation issues with geographical features.
"It's true that everything happens for a reason. Just remember that sometimes that reason is that you did something really, really, stupid."
The directions didn't say to solve the problem once he changed it. Hence, the dreaded purple X.

There's three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who's got the same first name as a city; and never go near a lady's got a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, everything else is cream cheese. --Coach Finstock
What better way to cultivate a hatred of math than to mark a problem like that wrong? If that happened to my kid, I would have a discussion with the teacher. Seriously.
Why do you assume it's a 'she'? Because of the color purple?
Not at all. If anything, The Color Purple taught us that education is one of the most precious gifts one can attain....basic stuff like learning to read, etc.
I'd say so. Everyone knows purple is only used by women or girly men.
Right Dhole?

I am not talking about the commutative property of math (which creekster correctly cites), in which case the teacher's answer is correct, as well. I am simply reading the equation logically.
Written as "5x6," isn't the teacher saying that the lead integer is 5 and that there are six instances of the number "5" in the set in question (when, in reality, there are only five instances of the number "6")
The question asked for a restatement of the given set. If anything, the stronger argument is that the teacher is incorrect."6" only appears five times.
