Has anybody here ever tried it? My golf buddy has made roughly 600 jumps and yesterday I went up with him to watch him jump. It was pretty cool to be right there when he leaped out of the plane. I would never do it because I would be afraid of breaking an ankle and ruining my summer but if someone is looking for a big adrenalin rush then this is one way to go.

I did one of those tandem jumps right after I graduated from college. I was really surprised to find it wasn't nearly the rush that I thought it would be. In fact, pretty overrated. Now, maybe that's because I had someone attached to me, telling me what to do at every step, but I'd compare the whole experience more to a hot-air balloon ride than to bungee jumping. At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

I've gone a few times. Tons of fun. I went when I was 16. At the time you could do your first jumps tandem for go AFF (where your instructors hold onto you instead of being attached to someone). I went AFF. I thought the free fall would be way better than the parachute ride but both were equally enjoyable to me.Originally posted by RC Vikings View PostHas anybody here ever tried it? If you ever decide to go I don't think you would regret it.

It is on my life list of things to do.
When I was in law school, I went with a group of friends from BYU (ERCougar, you know who they are....JV, BC, etc....).
We went out in the morning, watched the training video, put on the gear, then went outside to await the small plane. I was really nervous.
The plane could only hold X amount of people, so the pilot just picked people in our group at random. I was not picked, so we sat down to watch our group fall from the sky. A little while later, sure enough, we see the parachutes open. A few of them landed with no incident. One of our friends apparently passed out up in the air and as he floated down in tandem, it looked like he was dead. He was out cold. We never let him live that one down. He landed like dead weight. It kind of freaked me out, actually.
The next group up was a group that had an appointment. As we watched them float down, one of the chutes was having some trouble opening. The employees on the ground started getting antsy. The chute deployed, but a bit late. The instructor took the brunt of the fall and either broke or sprained his leg on impact. He yelled in pain. They called an ambulance and took him away. The pilot did not want to go back up again because he wanted to make sure his co-worker was ok. So skidiving was cancelled for the rest of the day.
We went back the next week and the sky was fogged over. After the fog cleared the pilot told us that he was experiencing engine trouble, so they were cancelling all jumps for the day.
I took that as a sign that the Lord did not want me to jump with that company. I have never returned and still have yet to jump. But I want to try it.Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

Hey! That's who I went with! I guess I was one of the ones who was picked. I don't remember all the rest of this happening though. Was it someone in our group? Who passed out?Originally posted by TripletDaddy View PostIt is on my life list of things to do.

Wait.....yes, you were there! Ha. Small world. It was a decent sized group...around 10 of us. I was in the second group. The guy that passed out had a large head...literally, not speaking of his ego. I can't remember his name, though. JV probably remembers.Originally posted by ERCougar View PostHey! That's who I went with! I guess I was one of the ones who was picked. The second group lands and the guy really injured himself, so they shut it down. JV was also in the first group, iirc.Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

How weird that I don't remember any of that. I was living in SLC at the time, so I probably just took off after my jump. I'll have to ask JV about the guy with the big head.Originally posted by TripletDaddy View PostWait.....yes, you were there! Ha. Small world. It was a decent sized group...around 10 of us. Wait...I have a big head. Not figuratively, of course. Was this some weird indirect knock on my cranium? I didn't pass out!At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

My uncle was a coroner or medical examiner for Utah County, and after he told us about the times he has had to go scrape skydivers off the ground, I lost any desire I had to do it.If we disagree on something, it's because you're wrong.

Seems like they could hire a day laborer to do that. I guess that means that your Uncle was lying to you all these years. Did he ever show you his medical degree? I didn't think so.Originally posted by SoCalCoug View PostMy uncle was a coroner or medical examiner for Utah County, and after he told us about the times he has had to go scrape skydivers off the ground, I lost any desire I had to do it.Ain't it like most people, I'm no different.
