  • About the outage yesterday

    Phew. We are back up.

Here is what happened: I noticed the site was sluggish yesterday so I contacted the hosting company. They said that the server we are on was under a DDoS attack and they had narrowed it down to our site and one other. Then they got back to me and said that the attack was targeted at our site. It was a 2GB per second attack. Per policy, they nulled our IP address and shut down the site for 24 hours.

Given that we are a small niche site and that the attack happened on April Fools day, I am sure that the attack was set up by someone who knows us and has an axe to grind or has a juvenile sense of humor. Whoever you are, I hope you got a good laugh out of it, because you just committed a felony. That's a significant risk to take to make a joke. Rest assured that if we (with assistance from our hosting service) are able to track you down, we will press charges.

Do they pursue and punish this type of felony? I wish they would. It bugs me to see often the pursuit and punishment for identity theft is nothing more than a wrist slap.

I am just glad it is back up. I was getting way to much work completed.

Some people sure have too much time on their hands.

If it was back up on the 2nd, how come it wouldn't come up for me until today?

The attacks resumed again so our host took us offline again.

I hear you sister. I hate to publicly confess this, but I lurked for a few minutes at Utahby5. It was only to see updates from JL on CS, but still. Ugh. Oh that was horrible. *Shudder*

Thanks Dude! If we catch the guy we should put her/him in DT's smoker, but not eat them as that would be cannibalism.
