I wouldn't underestimate the power of Uncle Google. That's how I found this place when the high counselor read a letter from the pulpit that confused me. So I googled and found more info than I expected. I then lurked and found this place interesting and informative. It's the content and the posters that make any message board worth its salt; not the name.

I do hope the disaffected Ute posters stay since I value their insights. I wish there were a broader range of fans like dabockster and HuskyFreeNorthwest that offer differing perspectives of college football. I also hope LA Ute stays and continues to offer needed balance in the Foyer and that the heretics continue to post to keep the "True Blue" faithful from gaining even a foothold. In short, I dig this place no matter what it's name. It took me a while to even figure it out it had changed; thought JL finally posted an online ad...really.

Yeah, señor Google brought me here during the big 12 expansion clusterf***.

I found CUF through a google search. I was looking for something BYU football related. The only forum before this I had participated on were a Mogwai forum and a Fender guitar/amp site and I was awkward enough on those. I had no intentions of joining an online community as I rarely have anything compelling to say. BYU football brought me here, MarkGrace's brilliant taste in music compelled me to linger, and more BYU football talk kept me here. If JL's goals are to bring more people into the community, he is going about it the right way. People join online communities to exchange information. There is an undeniably greater online presence of BYU fans than Utah fans. The information that brought me here was BYU football. Not the BS from teenagers (or the those with the maturity level of teenagers) on CB, intelligent people talking BYU football. Once I was here, the other sections of the forum were an added benefit. And I can't emphasize how important the other aspects of this community have been. I have gotten advice and recommendations that have been invaluable from the members on this forum. BYU and Utah fans alike.

I do feel bad for Ute fans here. I imagine this move feels like a slap to the face. As bad as CB is, Utefans.net is infinitely worse. I don't think there is anywhere else for intelligent Utah fans to go. My Ute friends don't belong to Utah specific online communities. For as many PAC-12 stickers as I see around town, and as much as their fan base rivals BYU's in number (purportedly), there is not a huge online presence. I hope we don't lose the Utah fans that have been a huge part of this community.

        • Since the Board has now gone Independent, maybe only the Stadium needs to be that way.

You all could rustle up some WCC posters for the other categories. I'm sure a Jesuit or two from Gonzaga or Santa Clara would spice up the Foyer. Maybe take a pass, though, on those Lasallians from St. Mary's, not to mention the folks at USD. They're probably too liberal.

cougarstadium.com wouldn't be more valuable domain than cougaruteforum.com when it comes to google. the word cougar is in both and forum is probably more valuable than stadium.

            • What's in a name? That which we call a rose
By any other name would smell as sweet

It's the same board, with the same guy donating a ton of time to make it happen. Like I tell my kids, suck it up and get over it.

If the Dude was a Ute and he dropped Cougar from the name, it wouldn't bother me a bit - the board is still the same. The fact is that it's the people here now, not the people who might sign up next week, that keep us coming back, so why should we give two piles of zebra crap what the name is?

I think it would be nice, however, if the powers that be would have created a HTTP redirect for the old domain cougaruteforum.com. At least then I wouldn't have to update all my damn bookmarks. Also, all our Ute friends most likely wouldn't even have noticed anything except for the banner change.

STFU! Shut your face, SOLON! This is the kind of BS that keeps the good posters from everywhere away.

Sorry about that. It should work better now. I did the redirect incorrectly but I changed it this afternoon to be a more general redirect (a wildcard redirect). BFM was kind enough to set me straight.

                          Ah, that's much better.

The CUF overloads have corrected the errors of their ways. http://www.cougaruteforum.com once more brings you to the website you love. Never mind the new banner.

Seems odd to make a change. So much of the vibrancy here arose from reasonable chaps from different sides having a bit of a jab at each other, in good fun.

Now it's the old bugger off to the Utah utes, I suppose.

I have been a "creepy lurker" for years but I noticed first a round of banishment of some of the more popular and cheeky fellows and now this. Ok, have it your way...I'm not paying the server license!
The common thread is Jeff Lebowski. He thinks people are disposable playthings. He went from being MikeWaters' most trusted henchman to gutting him like a trout the next day. Et tu Brute? But then there's karma. You see, 70 percent disapproval rating for the new name, predominantly among BYU fans. Also, BYU fans are at each others' throats, in public and secret places. Blood in the streets.

Holy crap, that is some vintage hyperbole.
