It just is what it is dude. For me, the rivalry is what made me care about Utah. There seems to be far less co-mingling on the board in the sports forums. There are Utah threads and BYU threads. And that is fine, but realize that BYU and Utah now are on different paths than they were before the summer of 2010. Trying to maintain that seems awkward at best and long term doesn't seem viable to me. How would you feel about BuffUteFans.com? Well that doesn't work, because there isn't any rivalry or shared community. All we have left then is history and a shared faith. Is that enough to sustain a message board? I don't think so. That's just my opinion and what caused me to agree with the change.

Does this mean Ute participation here will be diminished over time? Maybe. But that will reflect your and other Utes' participation here. If you decide to take your posts elsewhere then that is a decision you have consciously made. It certainly won't be because of our moderation.

    .

This has been said a few times. What is there to maintain? There isn't a ute specific subforum, there isn't a Ute specific SE. Is Pelagius that burdened doing the pick contests?

Cougarguard (actually, that's a lot better name than CougarStadium which makes us sound like a bunch of couch potatoes and losers).
This is an excellent point. I think very few would disagree with the statement that Cougarguard is a better name than Cougarstadium. This board, essentially a spinoff of Cougarguard with so many of the same participants, has been a new and improved version of Cougarguard. It's unfortunate the name isn't an improvement, but rather a considerably inferior option. Oh well. C'est la vie.

You must be the 5th or 6th EC person (I guess you are one of those too?) to say this. You guys really need to step back and try to see how that looks and feels to us.

Me: Dude I know this great place for Mexican. I know that the name is "Too Many Chens", but they have a killer mole sauce.

          Friend: Ummm.

Me: I know that there is chinese writing underneath the english name, but you have to trust me on this.

          Friend: Uhhhhh...

          Me: Ok In-n-Out it is.

The patrons that know about the mexican menu will slowly drift away, and without specific signage, others will not fill their void. This is inevitable.

We are definitely the lawless drug cartel. Them and their Law of Consecration are the commies. The Mexican commies will have to pick a side eventually.

But hey, you Utes are still welcome to stick around, mostly.

                • Why did Ute fans come to CG in the first place? Or even to CB? Is there a viable alternative to Utefans? If not, then I think Ute fans similar to those we have now and have had in the past will continue to come here. If Ute fans really wanted to discuss Utah sports on a deep and consistent basis, this was never the place to do it.
Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

Now - replay this story in a small town that only has a couple of restaurants (and one of them is not In-n-Out). Most folks go to the Mexican restaurant for their Chinese food, because they know that is the best place to get it. And when friends come to town, they look around and realize there aren't a lot of options to choose from, so they take the word of the local they are visiting and give it a shot too. Some don't like it, some do.

Seriously - what is the alternative? cougarboard gets you too much moderation and too many off limit topics while utefan gets you some version of redneck island. Neither allow much discussion on the variety of topics covered here - albeit for very different reasons.

I understand some angst about the name. I don't necessarily believe it needed to be changed, but I don't believe it has to change how things go. I certainly don't see utah fans being run off at any greater rate than they have been in the past.

They'd rather talk about progressive Mormon issues and serious politics than look at full body pics of famous starlets?

Also, the great mass of your own fan base can be pretty grating.

                          • I am blown away by the whining and crying of Ute fans. The majority of you started on cougarboard.com a message board that is dedicated solely to BYU in fact the mission statement says:

CougarBoard is the largest independent online community of BYU Cougars sports fans. With thousands of posts each day, and thousands of active users, it's a vibrant community where all sorts of current events and other topics are discussed along with the majority of sports-related posts.
I do not see anything about Utah fans.

                            You then migrated to cougarguard.com

                            which states:
unofficial BYU Cougars / LDS sports, football, basketball forum and message board
Again nothing about Utah or its fans.

You are now posting on cougarstadium.com which is very similar to cougarboard and cougarguard that you have spent hundreds of hours and made thousands of posts on without having any issues about whether or not the site was catering to your favorite team.

I do not see any of you alleged Ute fans going out and starting your own message board that caters to utah fans only or better yet since you are all for equality how about a utah-byuforum that you pay for and run yourself. The reason is that the Ute fan base can barely support Utefans.net let alone another message board. The ute fans trickling over here have been few and far between and the quality has been terrible. That is why none of you are in any hurry to use your hard earned funds to start your own board, not enough interest to support it.

Just like the name of cougarboard, and cougarguard didn't deter you from posting the name cougarstadium won't either. You will always be the red-headed step children that spends more time on your former rivals message board than your own.

                              • I think some Ute fans apreciate a little cover as to why they sepnd time here. It's embarrassing to some Ute fans to spend any time on a BYU board. I remember that feeling when at my grandma's house at age 7 I preferred to cross the street and play with these two girls, and my uncle would tease me for playing with girls. If this is a partial Ute board it helps with that shameful aspect of hanging out with BYU fans.
