  • Starting new threads

Anyone who wants to start a new thread and is afraid they will get beaten down by the new thread starter nazi's: Dhole, DDD, and their cronies, I just want you to know. I STAND WITH YOU.

A lot of people have been crushed by this facist regime, and we are fighting back!

Reasons to start a new thread:

    1. You have a substantive post of three or more paragraphs.
    2. You'd like to start a thread dedicated to a movie, song, TV show, etc and don't want it lost and buried in the large thread dedicated to generic movies, etc.
    3. Your topic differs slightly from the the theme of the thread
    4. You have reason to believe your post will begin a conversation lasting at least five posts long.
    5. You don't enjoy posting in the long threads because they always evolve into the same players and their cutesy banter back and forth which you'd rather avoid.
    6. Any other reason whatsover--NO REASON REQUIRED

PM me if you need more information about the revolution.

There's already a thread for this.

The rest of us rarely bother to think about our actions." --Solon

You do not use an apostrophe to pluralize "nazis"

That is a tough call due to the automatic spelling thing on the iPad. As more and more people purchase iPads (not sure about palmettos), you will see this problem with greater frequency. Also, for some reason the iPad does not allow me to use "esp" as an abbreviation for especially. It always defaults to "escape" for some reason. I like having a spell check but there are a few recurring ones that annoy me and I don't know how to change them. "It's vs. its" is one of those that I want to change.

And the mile-long threads actually make finding the information you seek or would be interested in nearly impossible. It's so much easier to just skim through thread titles. I don't post much, but I hate the endless thread enforcement.

Heard a new rumor about BYU joining a conference, start a new thread -- that rumor can be discussed there. Or you could just bury it in an ocean of crap and unless someone wants to devote a half an hour to sifting through the 99% of refuse, and only the few who have that time to read a novel/thread will do so.

The irony is instead of making this place's information more organized, it actually makes it much less organized, melting everything into ever-growing blobs with decreasing and diminishing value -- except for those who actually cultivate and maintain the monsters.

Plus, it's a huge barrier to entry. But that's maybe what the die-hards want.

Apart from the suggestions/complaints of individual posters please direct me to instances of "endless thread enforcement."

actually, if you know what thread it's in the search function is a very handy way of finding the information you want.

I had no idea you could use an iPad to post. I've only ever seen them mentioned in the context of hostile avian projectiles and virtual runway mishaps.

I intend both meanings of the phrase, and the enforcement is obvious, though mostly cultural.

There's enforcement to keep postings in endless threads of way too broad a category.

And the cultural enforcement, from the likes of you, is relentless.

I don't think you realize the size of the problem it is and the problems it will create for you, the biggest of which is erecting a huge barrier to entry and gargantuan threads useless except for the most avid of the garbage collectors.

Take the huge story of BYU potentially joining a major conference -- all information tucked within one thread? It's ridiculous on its face. And no other forum even comes close to such idiocy.

I'm also interested in seeing proof of barriers to entry. Our membership keeps increasing, we have fans of random schools popping in here all the time, activity is at an all time high, and even Moose has registered multiple times. The borders are open, my friends! This is an era of quality immigration, the likes of which we have not seen since the Mariel boatlifts out of Cuba in the early 80s.

Lol. Thanks for proving my point.

I'll go to the garbage dump, and search for the nuggets.
