How did you find CUF?
I started posting on CB in 2005 and eventually drifted over to posting on CG a little bit more as I got increasingly annoyed by some of the people on CB. I knew MW at BYU and felt a little bit bad about gradually leaving CG for CUF, but the way CUF has taken off speaks for itself. The environment over here is a little more friendly and that's why it has added so many interesting people, in my opinion.
What do you do (other than read CUF)?
Mostly work and hang out with my family. Outside of those two activities I mainly read and watch TV. I'm pretty boring. I was a pretty kickass basketball player in my day, if I do say so myself. Now I'm a little bit out of shape, but I occasionally suit up and leave the younger guys shaking their heads about how a guy with mostly gray hair can rain the 3s down on them.
Did you ever consider an alternative career path?
I considered radiology instead of cardiology for a while. That's about it. I love statistical analysis of sports, especially baseball and I sometimes wish I could have been somebody like Bill James, the father of sabermetrics.
How many time zones have you lived in and what is your current time zone?
Three, I think. Mountain, Central, and whatever time zone Ukraine and Belarus are in (mission). Current time zone is Mountain.
How many states have you lived in?
5. Born in Mississippi, subsequently lived in Utah, Missouri, Minnesota, Texas, and Utah again.
What are your sports loyalties?
I'm pretty fanatical about BYU sports and I'm a Jazz fan. Otherwise, I love to watch professional and college football and basketball, pro baseball, and the NHL playoffs, but I don't have any other die-hard allegiances. The Cards are my favorite baseball team, but I'm not a die-hard fan. I went to a ton of Cardinals games during my 4 years living in St. Louis and a couple of St. Louis Rams games, including an NFC Championship game in 2002 (a 29-24 win over the Eagles). I even went to a couple of Texans games, and although I'd like to see the Texans make the playoffs eventually, I'm not really a true fan. A few years ago I would have said the Rams were my NFL team. But to be honest, my main NFL rooting interest the past few years has just been my fantasy football team.
What's your standing in the church?
100% active when I don't have to work on Sunday. I like the social and service activities that come with the Church. I have been agnostic from birth as far as I remember, but I think the Church is a decent framework for family and individual development and Christlike service as long as you ignore the stuff that doesn't make any sense.
I wish Church meetings would be more centered on practical, Christlike behavior, like the lessons that were in Christ's Ideals for Living instead of about Church history, Book of Mormon "history," or Biblical "history."
Are you looking forward to Wuap's welcome question and what do you think it will be?
I'm definitely looking forward to it. But I'm pretty sure that my trade education will leave me unprepared to fully comprehend or respond to his "liberally educated" question.
