I thought of pointing that out, but then wondered if he had used a Middle English or Anglo-Saxon spelling, now that he has joined the intellectual elite.

I mispeled it on purpose. I am always testing you intellectuals to see if you are legit.

I will say that phonetically, the misspelling is closer to correct for a Brit than Kan-ter-bairy.

I didn't think it was possible to come away from an intro knowing less than what I knew before. But I jest, I did not know that you had a two year old.

The word count of this post would have likely covered 20 or more posts on CB. It's good to see you settling down some.

Knock it off. This board has enough problems without a dose of middle-age lechery.

ahh, I see what you mean. No doubt it's only a matter of time before he starts posting in Greek.

Indy, I wasn't attacking, just a friendly jab. Don't you remember? That's one of the things that makes you different here than at CB, and that's a positive thing.

I rarely take anything on this board seriously, even when it sounds like I am. Except for SU. I take everything he says deathly seriously and he is going to burn like stubble someday.

Indy, our mutual loathing will most likely continue, despite my efforts to get you to remove the bug from your butt, but I'll give you a question anyway, on the odd chance that you provide something other than a nebulous and snarky answer.

On May 1, 1898, Commodore George Dewey (USN) attacked the larger Spanish fleet docked in Manila, Philippines, and destroyed or captured the entire Spanish fleet as well as silenced the Manila batteries that day. This was accomplished with the loss of only one man in his fleet, from heat stroke. As a result of his amazing accomplishments, both in the Spanish-American War and in the War of Northern Aggression, he was given the title Admiral of the Navy, and was allowed to remain on 'active duty' until the day of his death. No other person has ever been accorded this rank and honor by the US Congress. While the Filipinos originally saw the invading Americans as liberators, the administration of William McKinley quickly decided that ownership of the islands was in the strategic and economic interests of the United States, and refused to grant them their independence. Dewey found himself in the unpleasant position of having to threaten to fire on his previous allies in order to allow American troops to land on Filipino soil. He was later appointed to the Schurman Commission, and voted that the Philippines were not yet ready for independence, which wouldn't come until after the Second World War. If we hadn't given them their independence, how would you feel about the Phillippines being another state, or two, of the United States of America?

Just think, those videos of cross-dressing Phillipino prisoners performing Michael Jackson songs could have been filmed in American prisons!

If the Philippines had become another state, the standard of living there would be considerably higher and politically the country would be more stable than it is now. However, I don't think it would be in our interest to make them a state. There is too much of a disconnect in culture and interests to allow them representation in the legislature (think how many electoral votes they would have!). There is significant strategic value in still having American military bases there.

Wow, an honest answer. I have hope that we shall be great friends.
