I think it would really help if you switched your avatar to this or something:

When one only lurks for an hour before signing up, one misses some of the unspoken traditions involved in the introduction process. So, from the bottom of my heart...get over it!

                            "college professor of Family Studies"?

                            What exactly does that mean?

Welcome by the way? From a fellow newbie.

Vim sans obeisance......I don't know whether to respect your pluck, shake my head at your nescience, or roll my eyes at the unfledged callowness of your post, you drasty spalpeen . Which would you do if you were me? The real question is how many of those words did you have to look up? If x = >2 then we shall = great friends. If x = <1, then there's no hope for you here.

Family Studies is a discipline that...studies families. I get that all the time, actually. Given how much the family has changed over the last 50 years, and the social implications of such changes, and the demand for families to seek assistance with all sorts of problems, Family Studies provides a scholarly foundation for such efforts. Graduates tend to work in social services, or go on to complete advanced education to become marriage and family therapists, family researchers, family lawyers, family policy analysts, work-family consultants to businesses, or boring academics. Also, many students take courses in it as electives because they want to improve their own family lives, which is a great perk in the discipline for me--getting to pretend like I am helping others, and being reminded of what a poor family man I am!
