Dude, they have medicine you can take to help you deal with other people's inadequacies.
I hear they make it in cream form too.
Personally, I like this reference.

If you think you lean towards Lebowski's attitudes, it simply must mean you haven't been here long enough.

Gerry is one of my favorites. Gerry is one of the big wave pioneers and will always be revered for that, but there are many others I'd put ahead of him. Thomson is a great, but not the best. Both of these guys though were mostly before my time.Originally posted by Katy Lied View PostShaun Thompson was the best, unless you want to look at just Big Wavers. In his time definitely. Since he retired others have passed him in technical ability. However there is no one who surfs as beautifully as Shaun and it's almost like he becomes one with the wave. He's the very definition of a soul surfer. IMHO if a tow rope and watercraft isn't involved Laird has nothing on him.Originally posted by Katy Lied View PostShaun Thompson was the best, unless you want to look at just Big Wavers. Shaun became one of my heroes long before my mission. I saw him at the O.P. Pro at Huntington and was somehow fascinated. I studied up on him and he became one of my sporting heroes. I think I've written about the time he invited me to go surfing with him when I was on my mission.Originally posted by Surfah View PostSouth African bias.

That would have been too much temptation for me. Good thing God knows it and didn't put that in front of me, I would have jumped at the chance.Last edited by NorCalBYUFan; 04-19-2013, 12:13 PM.

I did get in the water but not that time. I was able to go surfing at the end of my mission.Originally posted by NorCalBYUFan View PostWow. Well, did you get in the water?

At the time Shaun was mostly retired although he still surfed select events like the Gunston 500. I believe he'd gone back to South Africa to get a graduate degree or something from the University of Natal. Anyway he had a shop in Durban called Shaun Tomson's Surf Beat. I'd drop by every so often and pick up gear. The first time I was there he asked me what we were doing and I explained. He knew all about us because he enjoyed chasing girls at BYU-H. When I mentioned I enjoyed surfng he offered to take me out that afternoon. When I explained the prohibition against swimming he said, "Ahhh, that's rubbish man!"
Honestly not going was the biggest regret of my mission.

It did cheapen the moment, no doubt about it. But he's a new guy so we have to cut him some slack.
