Segwaying while freestyling from Tears for Fears, "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" to Michael Jordan without using Jack McCallum's book Jordan Rules is sloppy writing and pretty much disappointing.Originally posted by wuapinmon View PostNorCalBYUFan (6 syllables!), please answer the following question, but consider your answer carefully as our future dealings in this site may depend in large part on your response to this:
While I am indeed a Ramblin' Wreck, I am not a helluva an engineer, neither am I an inept one; I'm merely a yellow jacket. When Adam Scott won the green jacket at this year's Masters, he received a lifetime invitation to the tournament, along with a healthy purse of almost $2 million. While Tiger Woods has mastered the Masters several times, he could not master his rambling in his marriage, leading to a wreck both outside and inside his home (one literal, the other metaphorical). And, while metaphors compare two things without using 'like' or 'as,' Michael Jordan's Gatorade commercials of yesteryear with the refrain, "I wanna be like Mike" stuck in our heads as much as the nail did in Richard Kiel's head in Happy Gilmore. Jaws scared the living shit out of me in the mid-1970's, but like Tsarnaev this evening, a bigger boat wouldn't have mattered for my fears. Tears for Fears had a hit with "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" in 1985, just a year before Michael Jordan set a record, still unbeaten, of scoring 62 points in a playoff game, against the Celtics, prompting Larry Bird to say, "I think it's just God disguised as Michael Jordan." So, the question remains of all of Jordan's performances, in your mind, which one was the most amazing? (And, if you say Space Jam, you are dead to me.)

Was it the performance of eating the same meal before every game: 23oz NY steak, baked potato and ginger ale?
Is it the fact he made $80MM from Nike last year vs. the $35MM he had as a player?
Was it his whole career that landed him in 1996 as being chosen one of the all time 50 greatest players in the game?
Was it his single game high score of hitting 69 points, 5th highest ever?
The fact that he won 2 of the 3 slam dunk contests he entered?
Was it the fact he took his 3 point average from 14% his first season to 40% in his last?
Was it June 14, 1988 the final game in the championship series against the Jazz - the end of his career but at the top of his game, but in THAT game he made the final winning shot?
Personally, I think this shot is where he shows what he's about. A tiger that will not give up, one that will tear you to pieces if you turn your back on him. LINK
Was this a one time fluke? He tricked the players on the other team? No, he did it many times. LINK
He was in your face time and time again, giving it his all. He was a basketball god.

Welcome, my favorite surfer is Johnny Tsunami. He was forced to become a snow boarder after his family moved, shredded at both!

There are waaaaay worse regrets.Originally posted by Shaka View Post...
Honestly not going was the biggest regret of my mission.
The fact he spoke to you, asked you to go, huge cool factor. I'd count yourself lucky, not look back with regret.

Amazing opportunity.Originally posted by Shaka View PostI did get in the water but not that time. I was able to go surfing at the end of my mission.
At the time Shaun was mostly retired although he still surfed select events like the Gunston 500. I believe he'd gone back to South Africa to get a graduate degree or something from the University of Natal. Anyway he had a shop in Durban called Shaun Tomson's Surf Beat. I'd drop by every so often and pick up gear. The first time I was there he asked me what we were doing and I explained. He knew all about us because he enjoyed chasing girls at BYU-H. When I mentioned I enjoyed surfng he offered to take me out that afternoon. When I explained the prohibition against swimming he said, "Ahhh, that's rubbish man!"

It did cheapen the moment, no doubt about it. But he's a new guy so we have to cut him some slack. Three out of four ain't bad!Originally posted by clackamascoug View PostI just love the visual image you gave me... JL reading that and 7-UP coming out his nose.

That would have been too much temptation for me. Good think God knows it and didn't put that in front of me, I would have jumped at the chance.
