Help Wanted: Who replaces Bronco?

I can't think of one, but is there an example of a Utah coach coming to BYU that wasn't originally at BYU? Utah is utterly dependent on BYU talent to run their program, but the reverse doesn't appear to happen at all (maybe I'm missing someone though). Scalley would be the first?

Kaufusi coached at Utah before coming to BYU...

Edit: obviously he was at BYU as a player but he had never coached at BYU until he came from Utah

A DC job would be a promotion. If I was a BYU fan, I would be concerned that only 1 year after Scalley's mentor determined that it would be better to hire a 71 year old that was out of coaching for 5 years than promote him to DC that you are offering him a DC job without his mentor there to guide him. I would be even more concerned if Sitake was your head coach, because he has yet to prove that he can run a defense without Whittingham in control.

We'd love to hire more Cougars. They are honest, hard-working, and there is no chance that they will show up drunk to an alumni event!

Scalley might be a good DC in the future. However, the person who knows his coaching abilities the best didn't believe that he was ready to be a DC only 1 year ago. You should be concerned about hiring him as DC. It is a huge risk.

That same person decided that Brian Johnson was ready to be OC, when clearly he wasn't. I'm not sure Whittingham's judgment should be the measuring stick here.
