If a woman is just not in the mood and hasn't been for a sustained period of time and finds one morning her husband has had a wet dream.

Should she quiz him on who was in the dream and should this be reported to the Bishop.
I wouldn't have thought about this without his preface, but now 71 has made me curious as to what made him think of that.

I think divorce is a reasonable response to any addiction. Why should someone stay in a relationship with someone that refuses to address his/her addiction? At some point it is necessary to cut those ties for one's only safety, security, and emotional well being.

But I do not advocate killing someone as a solution, unless of course, one's life is threatened.

Well, since porn overconsumption is usually a sign of some underlying problem and porn addiction is really not a thing, I would recommend seeking counseling first. But if those issues are not able to be resolved, then agree that divorce is reasonable

Are we arguing about it's prevalence or just it's existence? If the latter, then I'll concede the point that there are a minority of porn consumers who because of background compulsive issues can develop destructive habits. And these habits can get worse, and in rare instances technically qualify for addiction, if they are surrounded by unhelpful teachings about porn.

If its the former, then I will argue most of porn consumption does not approach anywhere near addiction. And to insinuate that most of porn consumption will lead to addiction is just not true (not saying that you nor necessarily anyone else here is saying that).

And just to head off any potential follow-up arguments, I have misgivings about the prevalence of porn in today's society. It may be a part of the human condition, natural, and all that. But I don't think humanity has had to deal with it being so pervasive before. It's not a bad idea to be careful out there.

We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. That story is just tragic for so many reasons. Per the subsequent posts in response to it, the real problem with porn is how ubiquitous it is in society. As with many things, there are far reaching consequences for adult indulgences that go unchecked. In the study cited in the article below, the average age of first exposure is indicated as 13. There are other studies that have been done that suggest, 9 - 11 years old is a more common number for the age when a child is first exposed to porn. Regardless your view on consenting adults and porn use, I think it is reasonable to assert, young developing minds should not have access to porn as easily as they do in this day and age.

"Their survey revealed the younger the first viewing occurred, the more likely a male was to want power over women. While if they were older, they were more likely to be sexually promiscuous. Of the 330 undergraduates surveyed, with a median age of 20, the average age they first saw pornography was 13."

Exactly. Ubiquitous porn comes with a huge cost and to pretend that is only harmful and/or addictive "if they are surrounded by unhelpful teachings about porn" is a huge copout. There is overwhelming evidence at this point that porn is harmful.

I predict that the next "Me Too"-style movement in society will be a backlash against porn. The porn industry is built on a foundation of objectifying women.
