I keep dangling the carrot but no one's biting. Doesn't anyone want to know how I scored box seats to what may be the biggest game in BYU history? Of course you do, so I guess I'll just have to share.
My dad has been working to land a contract for his company with BYU for 4 years and it finally came through this year. The manufacturer had bought a box seat in the new stadium and shortly after the game was announced, they offered it to my dad's company for the game (knowing the BYU ties of many of the employees). However, my dad was only given two tickets, leaving us to hope we'd get a little glimpse into the box but probably not able to sit there.
Fast-forward to yesterday. I took TD's advice and didn't buy tickets ahead of time. I have to admit that as gametime approached and I saw NO scalpers, my faith wavered. salsa was considering her first post here, and it wouldn't have been friendly to TD and his ideas. Just as my faith was being sorely tried, I come upon a man with two tickets asking for my money. I jumped at the chance, paid him face value ($80 a piece) and asked no questions. As I looked down at the tickets, I see that one is to a luxury box, one to a seat and they're not next to each other. I look up and he's gone. So now we have a seat in what's likely an OU luxury box where we'd be far from welcome and another in a random seat somewhere else. And I'm pissed.
But then I get thinking...I wonder if this could get us into my parent's box. I send my wife on an errand--see if she can get into my parent's box, take one of their tickets and bring it back for me. Works to perfection. Had a catered lunch and drinks, three other flat screens to watch nfl preseason games during breaks, and a box full of BYU fans--for $160.
Finished by finally meeting some of the legends of CUF for ice cream after the game.
What a day.
