Can we define ourselves other than vis-a-vis BYU?

Just showing a comparison good sir...I'm not defining anything.

BTW last 10 years head to head Utah is 6-4

In some ways the programs seem to be on even ground. And that's including Utah's two dream seasons. I guess that means the byu has been more consistent; Utah has had higher highs and lower lows.

I'm not so sure of that. I think byu has had 4 really good seasons and the 6 mediocre to poor seasons.

Utah has had 2 fantastic seasons, one really good season 4 good seasons and 3 mediocre to poor seasons.

If you go strictly off the last 6 years, I am not sure any realistic BYU fan would prefer to have BYU's experience over Utah's experience. The U has accomplished some pretty impressive things in the past decade. Or basically since 2004.

The two programs are not close to even ground because Utah's two best seasons are so transcendent. They are qualitatively different by orders of magnitude. W-L and conference titles and such are chickenfeed next to Utah's two biggest achievements.

Personally, I define the Utes vis-a-vis programs like USC, UCLA or Auburn.

BYU / Kansas State > Utah / Pitt

You are forever excused from discussing this topic. You have already correctly admitted that the measure of greatness is a national championship. And thus, BYU football is greater than Utah football.

This was my initial thought as well. I don't mean to rip MRD, but I'm not sure what makes this information interesting. I don't think it should come as any surprise to any semi-intelligent fan of either school that the utes have been more successful than BYU in recent years.

If an SEC team had gone undefeated in 1984 would that have diminished BYU's season?

LOL! If it wasn't for 1984, the BCS would never have happened.
