The MTN/CBSCS/VS allowed me to see a LOT more football and basketball games than I would have if we were still with ESPN (under the terms of our previous ESPN contract, that is). I'm grateful it existed.

A long time critic of the mtn, I still see a lot of good that it created. Chiefly, it monetized and documented (through ratings numbers and negotiated rights) the power and value of BYU's global audience. If the mtn had never existed, ESPN would not have thrown as much money at BYU when we went independent.

Well, that makes one of us.

Without the Mtn I wouldn't have a Slingbox sitting in some stranger's house in Southern Utah right now.

I'm Art Garfunkel for a lot of things but not the mtn.

Maybe for basketball it is true. For football it simply isn't true. I moved out of Utah in 2000. From 2000-2005 season there was 1 game that wasn't available on DirecTV somewhere. During the worst years in the last 30 of BYU football it still found places to be broadcast.

Then from 2006-2008 BYU football wasn't available more than 2-4 times a year if you didn't live in the boundaries of the MWC.

So, I remember a few personalities. Where are they now?

                    James Bates
                    Sammy Linebaugh
                    Scott Serra
                    Marius Payton
                    Bill Doleman
                    Large Woman

Are these people still with the mtn, or have they moved on?

I like James Bates. I hope he lands on his feet somewhere.

I hope Todd Christensen never gets another job in broadcasting. Unless he gets to do color for Utah football.

He landed somewhere, but it wasn't on his feet.

Todd Christensen is a super duper nice guy who actually talks exactly the same way he does color commentary. That doesn't mean it's not annoying, but he really does talk that way in his day to day conversations.

Sammy quit the mtn with the departure of Utah/BYU. She is now working for the SEC.

I get my falsetto fix with Barry, Robin and Maurice Gibb, thank you very much. Although I did go see Simon and Garfunkel "Art Needs the Money" Tour at the ESA a few years ago.
