  • BYU vs. Idaho State: because we have to talk about it

Time to start getting pumped for this weekend's game against Idaho State.

I know almost nothing about this Big Sky school, so I did a little research and discovered some interesting factoids.

ISU's mascot is the Bengal Tiger.

    ISU's win totals from recent seasons: 2008 (1), 2009 (1), 2010 (1), and in 2011 they have 2 wins.

ISU plays football in a curious venue...an "arena" that seats 12,000 people. No, that is not a typo. Here is a pic of Holt Arena. It is possible that this is a game day pic. Unconfirmed.

That is all I know about Idaho State University. Please feel free to add to this thread to help us all better know our common enemy. The countdown to kickoff has begun.
    Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

I'll likely miss this game as I will be in Baton Rouge with a good chance of seeing the auburn/LSU game. Hopefully I don't regret watching the BYU game live.

I have two tickets I might be willing to part with, if the price is right. $80/ticket for sidelines. PM me if interested.

My dad was an academic all-american halfback at ISU back in the 50's.
Facemask wasn't required as a freshman. He liked it that way, as it was easier to see. They were pretty good back in the day, undefeated season, and sent their starting safety to the NFL. He said that he inched the ball over the goal line when he was under the pile, and the refs gave him the TD.

        That's about all I know.
        Go Bengals.
        I intend to live forever.
        So far, so good.

ISU is in Pocatello, a town I have driven through hundreds of times and blinked and missed hundreds more. I have actually driven past Holt Arena several time as well, actually. It kind of reminds me of a large barn used to store manure that was near my high school.

Also, DDD, ISU has TWO wins this year. They have beaten such powerhouses as Northern Colorado and Western State (apparently the latter was too embarrassed to reveal what state, exactly, they are the western part of). They have already played a D-IA school. Unfortunately for them, they lost very badly. Doubly unfortunately for them, that school was Washington State. ESPN tells me that Washington State has wins over UNLV and Colorado, but I'm not sure I believe it.

They appear to be a pass first team. Of course, any team would appear to pass first when they have -1 rushing yards (that was against Weber State last week).
Awesomeness now has a name. Let me introduce myself.

I've ran twice in Holt arena on their banked wooden track. They hold the Simplot Games every winter and it's one of the best ran indoor winter track meets. I was also offered my first beer in the Holiday Inn close to Holt Arena. Good times.

I learned that ISU is averaging a whopping .87 yards per rush attempt for 20 yards a game. They are giving up 245 yards rushing a game.

I'm so "excited" to watch this "game". I can't wait...

Great timing for this game. It's a semi-bye before TCU and gives the injured Cougars from Saturday a chance to rest. I'm looking forward to a second half with Jake Heaps action. Ross Apo should once again look like an all-star.

No, it's the same stuff they have in the Dallas Cowboy's stadium. Replaced it just this year.
