Looks like MWC Commissioner is getting congress involved.

    http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=4121294

The MWC has proposed a playoff system and hired a Washington firm to lobby Congress for changes to the BCS, which currently features a championship game between the two top teams in the BCS standings, based on two polls and six computer ratings.
I think a selection committee for BCS at-large games is a pretty good idea.

I wonder if John Haddow has anything to do with this Washington firm.

      Quote from the article

Sponsorships and TV revenue that now go to bowl games would instead be spent on playoff games, "meaning that it will be very difficult for any bowl, including the current BCS bowls, which are among the oldest and most established in the game's history, to survive," BCS coordinator John Swofford said in prepared testimony. "Certainly the 29 games that are not part of the BCS would be in peril."

Oh no, your buddies will lose their $500,000 base salaries and fly around to all sorts of great football games every year wearing tacky jackets. I feel soooo bad for them!
Seriously why the hell should we care about the bowls at all?

Dude, history! The Roady's Humanitarian Bowl is a priceless gem in this great sports history.

I understand the prestige of the Rose Bowl, Fiesta Bowl, Orange Bowl, Sugar Bowl, SUGAR BOWL, COTTON BOWL, and so forth, but honestly, why wouldn't you want to determine a National Champ on the field? In fact, for sponsors and advertisers, it probably makes some of the other games more attractive. At that point, EVERY game matters. Plus, the best teams (which typically have the biggest followings) will be on TV more frequently. The thought of having the USCs, Ohio States, Oklahomas, Texas' and Floridas on TV 3 or 4 additional times instead of just once HAS to be appealing.

I love the tradition of college football, and I can sympathize with the purist argument. But I still maintain a playoff would be better in almost every aspect.

If we want to find an undisputed champion in college football, a playoff is the only way to do it. But that would require that the BCS conferences would have to allow the rest of D-1 football the same opportunity which would mean less money for those 6 particular conferences. Rather than getting a smaller portion of an enormous pie, they want almost all of the portions of a gigantic pie.

what happens during the year (and it WILL happen) that all 8 playoff teams are from the 6 present "BCS" conferences? if we go the strict playoff route, without a 16 or greater team playoff where each conference is guaranteed a seed, there will always be a complainer.

my suggestion, and it is flawed, is that there be an 8 team playoff using the 4 present BCS, the Cotton bowl, and probably the Gator Bowl, and then permitting the rest of the bowls, limited to 15 additional bowl games, to exist and invite whatever tie ins that they have. the little guys will still balk and moan, but they will at least be somewhat taken care of.
