Utah played at home vs an FCS team. BYU played an SEC team on the road.

    Utah's was uglier.

Also in spite of his struggles Heaps looked far better than Wynn.

Maybe Wynn just needed some more reps to get in the groove.

      Wynn: 15/23 104 yards 2 TDs

      Heaps after 23 attempts: 11/23 96 yards 0 TDs

        Heaps didn't average 4.4 ypc.

Those are his stats? For real? Against a division IAA team?

Ironically, USU looked the best of the big three in Utah, and yet they sit 0-1 in the W/L column.

            On to next week!

I voted Utah, but candidly, I didnt watch the Utah game (and really, why would I?)

Neither did Wynn. He averaged 4.4 yards per attempt. Over the same first number of throws, Heaps averaged 4.1, 5.94 for the game. The former is abysmal, the latter well below average. Wynn didn't throw a near-game-killing Pick 6, but was facing easier competition.

I'd say based on their opening performance, neither QB is above the bottom rung or two on the ladder right now.

IMO the Utah game was never in doubt. The BYU one definitely was. Granted, BYU played on the road against a better opponent. Based on that fact, I say Utahs was probably slightly uglier, but that doesn't mean BYU got a signature win either.

I assume Utah won. Was their game ugly?

Utah's was definitely uglier. Utah has been very good at feasting on outclassed/inferior competition in recent years, and the MSU score didn't reflect that. BYU has rarely been better than a toss-up on the road against BCS teams, and the final score reflected that.

If both of the games were played in mid-October rather than Week 1, there's no question which team had the uglier game. That they were played in Week 1 makes some difference, but not much.

Heaps had an average game, but at least he showed he can make throws to all parts of the field and stand in the pocket and not get rattled trying to make reads. Wynn did neither of those against a D1AA opp.
