  • Gigantic boil on my face

So, since Monday afternoon I've had an ever-growing boil on my face, to the left of the end of my mustache. I thought it was just a pimple and I squeezed the hell out of it (I've never had a boil before).

Now the thing is swollen as big as an Eisenhower dollar, the left side of my lips are so swollen that I can't speak clearly, so I cancelled classes today.

I bought some Icthammol black salve and put it on it....I have some bactroban that I put on it yesterday, but I read that the black salve works much better at causing a head to form.

Anyone have any experience with facial boils? Do they scar badly?

I'm mostly pissed that I had to shave my beard because no bandage would stick to my face otherwise.

I'm on Vicodin for the pain because it hurts like hell (I can feel my damned heartbeat in it), so if I get carried away today about a topic, forgive me.

I once had something like this. I went to a dermatologist to have it lanced, but the dr. just injected it with some steroid (cortisone?), and it went away in a couple of days. She told me emphatically that I needed to keep my hands off of it, and that all of the squeezing and poking increased the risk of scaring.

So go get that bugger injected.

You need to see someone before you mess with it anymore. It can be a few different things, and the "black salve" treatment doesn't work for all of them (or likely, any of them ).

          It's not.

Seriously, wuap, don't mess with it any more. And get rid of the "black salve" (and the bactroban). It's not really an "emergency" in that you're not going to get sick from it, but these things can scar pretty badly if you mess around with them. PM me if you have any more questions.

I just called my FP and got an appointment for tomorrow morning. Luckily, if it scars, my beard will hide it, but I'd rather not have a crater.....and if it needs lancing, I want it done right.

I've been shocked at how badly it hurts....I couldn't sleep last night because my VPAP mask put too much pressure on the swelling, so every time I moved in my sleep, I awoke with a start. The pain is almost as bad as a gout attack because it's so close to the sensitive area around my lips. It just throbs and the bandaid puts too much pressure on it for it to be comfortable. If I drink anything through a straw it just aches, and chewing is out of the question. Plus, the inside of the skin behind the boil has that taste to it like a mouth ulcer has or when you touch your tongue to a 9volt battery.

As always, thanks for the NOT medical ummmm "counsel."

It might be a case of the Ghonnaherpasyphillis.

                    Just a thought.
