Texas will make $25mil a year just for multimedia rights. Insane.

How does this work within the contract of the Big 12? Can any school do this if they wanted? Oklahoma? aTm?
Now that Texas is making more from this separate contract than with the Big 12 contract, will they still be making more demands from the Big 12? Of course they will.. they are Texas...
Will be interesting to see what content gets aired on the Longhorn network because almost every football game Texas plays is already broadcast by ABC or FoxSports. I question if even dedicated Longhorn fans will consistently tune in to the Longhorn network to watch baseball, Mens BB, and any women's sports. Time will tell.
The Big Ten Network has some interesting content but that's spread over 12 teams rather than one. A much larger population base than Texas. Even though the Longhorns are king of the hill in Texas, the fan base is shared with Texas A&M, Texas Tech, and other schools. There are also a lot of OU fans living in Texas that will most likely ignore the Longhorn network along with the Aggies and others.

You really think the Big Ten network has interesting content? To me it seems like nothing but replays.
They are just showing Norte Dame how the deal is done. Beebe should be expecting a call from Swarbrick any time now.

True... Maybe UT will sell some non-prime time on its new network to some of its Big-12 brothers.

Just await the inevitable evolution of the channel to include original programming with reality shows involving Michigan fishermen and Wisconsin loggers.

Any of the ten schools in the Big12 can sign a similar contract. Unlike the PAC12, SEC, and Big Ten every school owns it's individual media rights.
However, the football contract with ABC and FoxSports takes precedence. And in the past, almost everytime the Longhorns have played, the game has been picked up. So I would expect only 1-2 OOC games against the typical pansies to get aired on the Longhorn network. Also, the home team typically owns the media rights so when the Longhorns travel to play the Cyclones, Iowa St. owns the media rights for that game. Which only means that Texas will have to give Iowa St. a cut of the revenue.
I foresee the revenue inequalities causing some big problems in the Big12 but smaller schools are at the Longhorn's mercy. Oklahoma and Texas A&M will have other conference opportunities - most likely with the SEC. It's the programs like Baylor, Texas Tech, Iowa St., Kansas St., Kansas, and possibly Kansas and Missouri (if the Big Ten has no interest) that are screwed when Texas goes independent to secure all of their media rights. That's why Nebraska bailed to the Big Ten when they had the chance.

I stated "some interesting content". Interesting because I grew up in Big Ten country and followed several Big Ten programs. Have friends and family that are Big Ten alumni. If there was a BYU-Utah channel that played replays and highlights of the Courgars and Utes, it would have similar interest to those fan bases. But someone living in Ohio or Michigan that's not LDS or with no Utah connection would question the content.

Sweet. the mtn should create a show where strippers vie to become UNLV dancers.

Actually the Big10 Network is pretty good. The HD is the best out there. They generally have two football games a week on the channel (during the season) and play tons of basketball, hockey and even wrestling. Its basically what the mtn.tv should have been. See when one of their conference teams is playing men's basketball on Tuesday night in December they will broadcast the game where the mtn is content to rerun "by the numbers" or the unlv v new mexico football game from 2007.

I think they will have to in order to keep the Big 12 together. Plus if the Longhorns play at Iowa St. for football and ABC/FoxSports does not pick it up then it's in both teams best interest to work out a deal. Not sure how pay-per view would work. That was one of Nebraska's complaints with the Big 12 contract in that FoxSports would purposely not air a Nebraska game knowing they could make more revenue on pay-per-view. Husker fans need their weekly football fix.
In my view, UT working out a deal with A&M, OU, and others with some king of access on the Longhorn network will be a signal that the Big12 will remain a conference. However, if UT locks them out and A&M and OU cannot get deals for their media rights, the Big 12 will go the way of the SWC. Texas will go independent to gain their football media rights from ABC/FoxSports. I guess ABC and ESPN are the same anyway - so it's just FoxSports they will try to dump.
