  • BYU hires Joe Dupaix to replace Anae

Joe Dupaix is Roger Dupaix (long time Skyline head coach) son.

He has been the "slot backs" coach at Navy for the past 3 seasons.

    Here is his bio:

Very good friends with Doman, and a young energetic coach.

I like this youth movement. Good for the longterm and true to BYU's image as a incubator of coaching talent.
      Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

Inside receivers/tight ends. Technically not replacing Anaes position just Anaes spot on the coaching staff.

I think I like this hire. I was never totally on the Cahoon hype wagon, and it's good to see a guy coming in from a program that has been getting stronger, has already been in the recruiting game, and in areas where BYU guys often don't have background (the Atlantic corridor, for example).

I also like that he's a Doman guy - high energy, young and probably loyal to Doman instead of scheming on Doman's job. That bodes well for staff cohesion. I dig it.

So, offensively what direction is this team headed ... with two "option" guys. Hmmm seems to play right into our natural recruiting "strengths".

Did he and Doman play together at Skyline? there was more than one Doman and I can't keep them all straight.

Brandon is the one who beat Utah 2 years in a row with 4th quarter drives. You must of been on call or something.

He is from Skyline, so we know he can recruit.

I also like that he is experienced. I imagine recruiting for the service academies is probably similar to recruiting for the Y. Definitely a different type of recruit that you are targeting than at the Y. He has a good pedigree as well being the son of one of the more successful high school football coaches in Utah history and has also worked at a high level on his own regard. Not a "sexy" hire so to speak, but potentially a solid one. BYU could have probably done worse.

I'm going to take that mistake with a grain assault.

If it was from 1997-2003 then, yes, I probably missed it due to being on call.

So does this hire mean Cahoon is out? We have two WR coaches, right? Higgins is still up in the air. Plus, Dupaix could also coach the running backs (isn't that what a slot is for Navy?), moving Reynolds to to OL and that means we still need an inside receivers coach.

Has BYU announced this hire and specified what position he will coach?
