  • Its official Chambers will be back......

However he is a non-scholarship athlete and will be back as a walk-on with the potential to earn back his schollie by the start of the 2012 season.

Chambers claims he is coming back and Bronco said he will be allowed back but he will have to redshirt no matter what next year.

Bronco is dropping the hammer and Oneill is claiming that he is willing to follow through and get back.

I haven't been high on Chambers, but if he really follows through on this, I will be extremely surprised and very impressed, both of which I'd love to be.

I'm not betting on Chambers, but if he can prove himself over the next 12-18 months, he deserves serious praise.

I can't decide if I should be happy about this.

Neither can Chambers. I think it may depend on how BYU starts next season. If they go 3-1 to start he'll be patient and stick it out. 1-3 and he'll find a reason to bounce.

          Sorry, just being honest.

I believe in second chances. I think one can feel happy about him getting a second chance even if he doesn't avail himself of it.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say he does something outlandish in the next nine months to get him suspended from the team again and we never see him in a Cougar uniform again.

Walk-on with the potential to earn a scholarship sounds just about right for a player Chamber's caliber.

Bronco's interview on the subject left me feeling like OC's return was much less certain. Perhaps, CJ, you have more information on this, but from this quote it looks like OC has been given the chance to be a walk-on and train with the team and perhaps win back his scholarship, but that he may decide not to take that opportunity.

                  * Mendenhall said Chambers "will not be on scholarship next year for us, will not be with the team."
Chambers is still in school after having been dismissed from the team in October.
"If he chooses to stay at BYU, [he can] train in the morning at the 6 a.m. weight class as a walk-on for the entire year," Mendenhall said.
The coach said Chambers could conceivably return and play in 2012 "because he has a redshirt year" but would have to go through all those other steps first.
Asked if he knows what Chambers will do, Mendenhall said, "I don't."

I agree, but he's had more chances than two.

It would be great if he could take this year to really continue develop as a player and come back to contribute.

I am really pulling for the kid. I don't know the situation in detail enough to say I am sure I am right, but I think he is really conflicted between two roads to travel. That happens to a lot of kids One of my sons I feel fell into that category. I think he chose unwisely at one time and it caused some grief.

However, people who knew him ask about him, how he is doing and what a good friendly kid he was. He was and is, but again he had conflicts.

He is doing well now and knock on wood will continue to do so.

I can empathize with Chambers Mom. For some reason she thinks the environment at BYU will eventually be a benefit for her kid. It seems a little funny to me that over on CB there are some who berate and personally go after Chambers at the same time proclaiming whenver they can what a special place BYU is.

I don't question what Bronco is doing. He has a football program to run. I do hope Chambers ends up cutting it at the school and graduating. I think that would say a lot about him and BYU. I am not to concerned about his football future. Again, I will leave that up to Bronco.

Marquis Wilson got the same deal in 2008. He didn't make it to November, IIRC.

That has nothing to do with O'Neill, but still.

The way it sounds, Chambers has a fairly steep hill to climb to get back on the team. Perhaps he will do it. I hope he does, for his benefit.

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."
