I heard Cuban talk about this on the Dan Patrick Show this morning. He mentioned 3 or 4 times that it makes sense financially and that it would be a profitable endeavor. Cuban's motives are not altruistic. He knows people are dissatisfied with the BCS and want a playoff system, and he wants to capitalize on that. It's just trading one devil for another."The mind is not a boomerang. If you throw it too far it will not come back." ~ Tom McGuane

I would agree that it's about the money, but Cuban, like anyone not affiliated with the BCS, at least understands that a playoff is the only way to find the true champion.Originally posted by Non Sequitur View PostI heard Cuban talk about this on the Dan Patrick Show this morning. Profits rock. :rockon1:
Just another fine reason for a playoff.

So, what? Who's going to do something like this for altruism? Isn't that one of the arguments we've been making for years, that a playoff system in college football would be a huge moneymaker?Originally posted by Non Sequitur View PostI heard Cuban talk about this on the Dan Patrick Show this morning. Are BYU's motives for having football in the first place altruistic? Yet we still get into it.If we disagree on something, it's because you're wrong.

The only problem I see with this is that Cuban's playoff system would likely not go through the NCAA, which I find problematic. Every other championship is under the control of the NCAA, why can't football? Having a playoff system that isn't governed by the NCAA ensures that the elite power conferences will remain in control and there will be no distribution of power.
That said, I'd prefer to see a playoff over the lame bowl system, even if it means no NCAA oversight.Dio perdona tante cose per un’opera di misericordia

Knock it off. This board has enough problems without a dose of middle-age lechery.

Interesting that Mark Cuban is talking about a CFB playoff this year when there are two teams that haven't played in a national title game before or won a national title. Where was Cuban when two Top 10 programs in Alabama and Texas played in last year's BCS title game?“Not the victory but the action. Not the goal but the game. In the deed the glory.”

I tend to believe the top players (by players I dont mean the student athletes, but the top teams, or "players" competing for a title) will follow the dollar. If the money is in a playoff, teams will come.Originally posted by pellegrino View PostThe only problem I see with this is that Cuban's playoff system would likely not go through the NCAA, which I find problematic.
