  • Who will be the next BYU DC?

I will give Bronco Version 2010 credit for a great PR move for Bronco.

Firing Hill and taking over at DC afforded him the opportunity to avert attention from his egregious QB error earlier in the season. He went from goat to savior in only a few short weeks.

Here is my question: I am guessing he still wants to be home by 7-8 PM each night next season, and I don’t see how he does that as both head coach and defensive coordinator.

So who does he hire/promote for a DC?

    Bronco. End of story.

That is unless he hires someone and then you may buy the abridged version of the story.

Even if he does hire a DC it will be in title only as he will still call the defense and work exclusively with the defense.

He has already said that he is keeping the duties for next year. I would suspect this will remain the case for some time.

So it was just a PR move?

I assume that this significantly expands his workload. People have repeatedly made the claim that Bronco will not be at BYU for a long (think Lavelle) tenure. Will this burn him out sooner?

With all of his talk of how much "fun" he's having, I wonder if he's learned that it's better to be fulfilled by your job and working a few more hours than not and be home at 5 every day. Before the last few games, when was the last time Bronco talked about having fun?
At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

A good move for the team as well, to be sure. But to think that Bronco isn't interested in developing his "brand" and cementing his position at the helm of BYU football is naiive.

Fun at work doesn't help him bond with his young boys.

Top candidates are Gary and Marty Mendenhall. Tough to say which is in the lead.

he's got plenty of time/ways to do that during the off-season. IIRC, he doesn't make many recruiting trips.

Is this a common assessment for some, that Coach Bronco's move was primarily a PR move to avoid criticism for early season performance?

I like how Bronco gets criticism for trying to find a balance between coaching and his family. I bet Andy Reid wishes he would have found that much sooner as well as Urban Meyer. Or the dozens of coaches who get divorced because they decide to be married to the profession.

I give the guy credit not only is he a successful football coach he has found a way to do it by not completely alienating his loved ones. Just because he does not work until midnight and is back at the office at 4am does not make him a bad coach.

Just exactly what is the added value from those extra hours? I have to believe a lot of those extra hours come from

                            2. Inefficiencies in what you are doing

I have talked to a few coaches that have said after a certain amount of hours of film that they end up hurting their game plan/previous production because they start to second guess and get to complex on things.
