but now that Jay Santos has given this:

    http://www.cougaruteforum.com/showth...ight#post52614

I feel it incumbent on me to do so:

When it comes to the NCAA tournament, the BYU has displayed such incompetence that derision is warranted.

Zoobs demand respect without earning it. Ray Freaking Giacoletti has more wins in the Big Dance since 1993 than BYU has had, for crying out loud.

Suck it, Jay. It's not my fault your team chokes when it matters.

Sadly I have to agree. Deride away.

Pour it on. BYU sports is dead to me right now. Lee Cummard is Mark Bigelow 2.0. Bunch of pussies just like the football team. They get popped in the mouth and they all recoil like scared little girls. They continue to shrink when it matters most.

You will have a change of mind when the Lakers lose to the Celtics, for the second straight year. Then you will hate the Lakers, the A's will suck ass, and BYU football practice will be going full steam. All you will talk about is how "this is the year" or "they really look strong"...happens every year.

Kick us while we're down if it makes you feel better. I don't see a ton of BYU fan posts defending this team. Actually, just the opposite. I know I didn't need you to point any of that out.

Given your history of bitching about Utah fans, I made my call. If I was wrong, so be it.

BYU's lack of athleticism shines through once tourney time hits. It's one thing pulling off an upset during November or December, it's another thing when March Madness hits. Everyone gets up for it and BYU doesn't seem to have the talent to grab the critical rebounds and loose balls or even make sharp passes. One thing I noticed when BYU played teams in the tournament with better guard play than aTm, is how often BYU would turn over the ball on the perimeter (Xavier being Exhibit A). aTm doesn't have great guards, but they have a fairly long and athletic team and BYU's lack of an inside game absolutely killed them.

This was obviously a mismatch for BYU. BYU had a better shot last year and an even better shot the year before with Xavier. I'm also wondering why BYU couldn't address some of their glaring deficiencies through JC recruiting (athleticism and a lack of inside presence). In a lot, if not most recent years, BYU has had some guy like Terrell Lyday, Mike Hall or Keena Young who's provided them with them with some athleticism/slashing ability/inside presence. This team didn't have that. Maybe I'm wrong on this, but Steve Cleveland seemed to be better able to go out and fill in holes through JC recruiting. Of course, Dave Rose is a much better Xs and Os guy.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

Give Fredette another year and I believe you'll have another Mike Hall/Terrell Lyday type. The kid's a gamer, IMO.

I haven't been paying a whole lot of attention to BYU's basketball recruiting but it looks like Haws and Davies will have an immediate positive impact and fill two huge areas of need. I like what I've seen out of Emery and Hartsock and Fredette usually doesn't make the boneheaded plays like he did today.

Chris Miles totally blows. I'll have to see what Davies looks like, but I wouldn't mind seeing a lineup next year of Tavernari, Hartsock, Davies, Fredette and Emery/Haws. Miles, at best, gives you a big body down low and some fouls and thereby adds depth. But the way that guy missed gimmes today was unforgivable.
