  • How do you Fist Roll?

I am interested in how people Fist Roll at BYU football games.

The results will be public. I expect answers from anyone that has ever fist rolled. This would include folks like UtahDan and LA Ute that started out BYU fans but eventually changed their orientation due to environmental circumstances.

If you have ever fist rolled at a BYU game, please respond.

I can't do the fist roll in good conscience. I do sing and clap in time, but when it's time for the wheels on the bus to roll I just sort of do a low key Muhammad Ali juke-and-bob until the triumphant fist pump.

I actually do not fist roll and I never have. During the fist roll and the end of the song I just hold 1 finger in the air.

I never used to fist roll, considering it lamer than the crazy lady dance. However, this past Saturday, I was overjoyed to be given the opportunity to fist roll, considering the 4 game drought, so I did it.

Also on Saturday, for the first time I did that stoopid Star Wars robo-arm gesture, which I consider the lamest thing alive. I was just so happy to be able to.

        Lowered expectations. Good times.

I don't do the fist roll. I cock my right arm and fist during the roll and then fist pump along with everyone else on "Cougars!".

The fist roll just seems too cheesy for me - I've never been able to do it without feeling like a dork. Cocking your arm/fist in preparation for the fist pump feels more manly.

I don't do the fist roll, and I raise my left fist at the end.

I love the fist roll and I fist roll however I want to fist roll. My fist roll defies description, it's that enthusiastic and heartfelt. I will say that my fist roll is like loading a spring and it results in a very vigorous punch to the sky.

There is no possible way that you have never fist rolled. Get back up to the poll, stop with the self loathing, and answer honestly. This isn't cougarboard, so I'm not afraid of you here. Do as I say.

Please indicate the manner in which you fist rolled.

I fist rolled until this year. Now I just stand there with my head bowed and my fist clenched in the air until the fight song is done.

I grew up die hard BYU but lived too far away to attend games until I actually enrolled at the University. My parents never taught me the fight song and so at the first game I attended I learned that 1) I didn't really like our fight song and 2) I was expected to yell "Rah, Rah" and 3) I was also expected to roll my fists.

I tried to fit in. I dutifully did what was asked of me until I finally reached a point after my mission where I could no longer fist roll and still live with myself. So, I sang the parts I believed in and stayed quiet with no fist rolls during those controversial moments. I figured I could do more from within rather than completely walk away from the fight song.

I'm very conflicted by the fist roll.

I usually don't get into the fight song hand motions at all.

If I'm feeling into it, I'll stand with my hand up and then do the fist pump Go Cougars at the end.

If I'm feeling a little more peppy I will go with the BFM method of the high fist quick successive pumps while others are fist rolling.

On rare occasions when I am feeling at one with my fellow Cougarmaniacs, I will bring both hands down in the fist motion belly height and instead of rolling, I will give a double fist jab as if I were punching someone close in front of me with very quick double jabs with extremely low range of motion, before raising the right fist high for a very spirited COUGARS!

Thank you for sharing this. I appreciate the honesty.

However, I am interested in the times when you DID fist roll. Please describe.

this goes for woot, as well. Sorry, nobody is buying that you have never fist rolled.

I hate the fist roll as much as anyone, but at least I am owning up to my past.

Something tells me that at one point in their lives, guys like EPU or SeattleUte have fist rolled. At least ONCE. They will probably deny it, though.
