  • Pretty interesting numbers regarding Dave Rose........

Last night Greg Wrubell threw out some interesting stats during the Dave Rose era:

    1. BYU is 31-4 in MWC play during the months of February and March, talk about closing strong.

    2. When Steve Cleveland left BYU had the 3rd best record of all MWC teams during the MWC era. Utah had a 15 game lead on BYU. BYU now has a 5 game lead on the rest of the conference, going 51-13 in conference play under Dave Rose.

    3. Dave rose inherited a team that went 9-21 in Steve Clevelands last year, and they won 20 games his first year at the helm.

    4. Dave Roses overall record at BYU is 94-26.

    5. BYU has now won 3 straight conference championships.

That is a pretty impressive resume, now hopefully he can add a NCAA tourney win to it.

I agree Rose is a solid coach

      Wow, that is pretty nice.

With all the emphasis on the tourney, it is easy to lose sight of the fact that Rose can coach.
      Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

Dave Rose and Bronco Mendenhall are twin sons of different mothers. This could have been a post about Mendenhall.

This year is BYU's big chance to do something that matters on the national scene. It has a strong guard line in terms of ability to create shots, take over games, etc., ideal for NCAA tournament success. If Cummard has any character at all he should be ready to put his personal stamp on the NCAA playoffs. Will BYU do its normal wussing out routine when it leaves the friendly pricincts of the Rocky Mountains or will it finally accomplish something that really matters?

Turns out this is a rebuilding year after two straight outright Big East championships and Big East tournament title and a Final Cour and a Sweet 16. They'll have the whole team back next year with a bunch of future pros. So watch out.

Rebuilding year? It wasnt that long ago that you said Monroe and Wallace were better than Hibbert and Green.

Just goes to show you how strong the Big East is. When a team that is as talented as G'town, can be considered rebuilding.

I said Monroe and Wright are better than Hibbert and Wallace. Green has been gone for two years. They demonstrably are better; they could beat them one on one and will be real pros. But as 3D can attest, recruiting classes that shine like the firmament are not necessarily a guarantee of success, not at all, especially in a very tough conference.

By the way the fact that the Big East has added all 16 teams to the conference tourney is crazy. You have to win 5 games in 5 days? or are they spreading it over 6 days?

I'm not sure why NIT games don't count. If you're going to include all those crappy bowl games, you might as well include NIT games. And yes, I know it doesn't make an appreciable difference.

WOW, sheds a good light on Rose.

If BYU can start this year by adding a NCAA tourney win or two, it will strengthen the stats.
                            GO COUGS!

You seem to be saying that Utah's BCS bowl wins weren't really successes.
