  • Best new shows on TV

Every year there are new shows and I have to decide which ones I will devote DVR space to.

This years the big winners were Life on Mars ( I really like this show) and Gavin and Stacey on BBCAmerica. This show is hilarious. If you haven't seen this, I highly recommend it.

I wanted to try out My own worst Enemy, but never got around to it.

I like Fringe. I also like Sanctuary on the Sci Fi channel (apparently, this is it's second season, but it's new to me).

Oh, and how can I forget Yo Gabba Gabba? That's new this season, too.

I don't watch much TV but when I do lately it seems I am always ending up on Discovery Health. I am obsessed with that channel now. If I could DVR I would devote space for Mystery Diagnosis.

True Blood on HBO is very entertaining.

I like the Mentalist. Fairly predictable, but the main characters are being developed well, and the running sub-plot is intriguing.

That's right - how could I forget? That's the other new one my wife and I both like. We weren't sure at the beginning, but it's very entertaining. The main guy on there embodies the likeable sort of cocky. In other words, yes, he's arrogant and cocky, but not in a way that turns you off.

Agreed. I think they did a good job in the very first episode of depicting his vulnerabilities and insecurities, which has created sort of an appreciation for, and an understanding of his arrogance.

This year's biggest Sophomore slump goes to Eli Stone. I thought it was kind of entertaining in season one. This year the quality of the writing has seen a precipitous drop. I wonder if a real attorney could suffer through 5 minutes of it.

We tried watching that, but it just didn't keep our interest. My in-laws love it and recommended it - that's why we watched it. I think the legal stuff was why I couldn't buy it - I vaguely remember telling my wife that the legal stuff was so off, that I just couldn't take it.

Another one I tried but couldn't like that much is Eleventh Hour.

Also, I learned 4 episodes in that the long-awaited 22-episode television series based on Terry Goodkind's first volume of the Sword of Truth series started November 1. I tivoed espisodes 4 and 5 last weekend and watched them last night. Unfortunately, I was sorely disappointed in the writing and acting. It was more like a poor Xena spinoff than anything. I'll probably still watch it because I love the book, but it's not up to par with the novel. I had hope for it, because it's the longest novel adaptation ever (22 hour-long episodes for one novel).

I concur ... very much likeable cocky. I thought the scene a couple episodes ago where he used the gambling winnings to by the other agents expensive gifts was very funny.

I agree re: Life on Mars. I've got this crazy theory about what's happening, but I don't want to spoil the show for anybody.

It can't be. I feel like I have been trying to steer my daughter away from that show for years now.

My wifes primary (or maybe it was sunday school) teacher is a co creator of that show.
