    BYU or Utah football?

This thread was inspired by LA's recent sportsmanship thread and one from Cougarboard...hopefully it's in the right forum.

I think the worst I've ever done is string together some pretty impressive profanities- occasionally directed at other fans- but nothing really over the top (I probably look like a choirboy compared to YOhio). I think this could add some interesting perspective to how we view each other as fans.

A couple of times, after Utah beat BYU, and the main Utah fan in my ward talked about it in Sunday School, I would think bad thoughts about him. That's about all I can remember.

When BYU won, I always felt bad for him, so I would tell him how good Utah played, and that we were really lucky to win.

I don't think I will win this thread.

In 7th grade, I put a bunch of Utah/red stuff in my best friend's (who was a BYU fan) locker on Friday afternoon. Utah won, so he had to get rid of that stuff Monday morning.

Looking back on it, I feel like an asshole because he couldn't have been less zealous about the rivalry. His parents worked at the U, and he was even cheering for Utah during the NCAA tournament. I should've done it earlier in the week.

After the Utah/Oregon game I stood waiting for a couple of friends in front of Autzen yelling at the Utah fans to "Go home to your 9 wives and golden bible".

I told a Ute fan in my ward to eff off after he tried to rub in the 3-0 loss in 2003. He wasn't really much more than an acquaintance and I don't know what possessed him to talk smack, especially because it February, and it's not like I ever talk about BYU football at church. His timing and obnoxiousness pushed me over the edge, and justified the profanity. I guess, in retrospect, I should have held my tongue. It happened in the foyer to the chapel right after sacrament meeting.

We need Utahby5 to weigh in here. He's got a story that I'm telling at his funeral.

I wish I could remember the name of the big O tackle Utah had during the Wayne Howard era, but I can't. Anyway I was sitting in the Southwest section of the stadium close to where the Utes would come onto the field. This was before all the renovations of course.

Anyway as the team after the first half was waiting to come back onto the field I started going off on the guy. I never like him or Wayne Howard. The dislike some Ute fans have for Max Hall type of dislike.

I knew he could hear me. I was letting him know Glen Titensor was owning him. Finally I guess he had enough. He came up into the stands. Yea, I will admit I had visions of ending up in the hospital. He didn't get to me though. Teammates caught up to him before he could get through all the fans.

I have toned things down ever since. Eventually I have come to have the Utes as my second favorite team. However, if they ever hire Wayne Howard again, they will quickly move to my most hated team again.

At a football game I am usually too busy yelling at my own stupid fans that I don't worry about stupid Utes. But at a BYU/Utah basketball game I had tickets about 10 rows up under one of the baskets. Frost was shooting FTs and there was some weird delay. I don't recall what it was for. But the refs had handed him the ball and then took it away. So I stood up (the only one) and started screaming at the top of my lungs "Give him his precious. He wants his precious." Then I started a Sméagol chant. I swear players were laughing. I know I was.

I've had my fair share of embarrassing moments as a fan. That said, I think the worst thing I've ever done as a BYU fan was to get there early and then stay the entire time in that 3-0 BYU/Utah game. I'm still cold from that game. And it made me hate Crowton with every ouce of energy I could produce.

Wasn't that the same year BSU and CSU clobbered us in the cold. I sat through all three games. :swear:

I'm disappointed. I thought this response would include something about the Stanford band.

Fortunately I was unable to attend the CSU game because my best friend was getting married up in Canada. Unfortunately KSL radio came in crystal clear on the drive home from the Calgary airport so I was able to listen to the whole thing.

Yes. The CSU game was a Thursday night and it was home coming if I remember correctly. The easiest traffic out of LES ever after that game. There couldn't have been more than 15k in the seats in the 4th quarter. I didn't make it to the BSU game. I think that was also a Thursday night game and I was living in Arizona. It was tough to get to all of those Thursday games living out of state. I did turn that one off early though.
