  • The Ute-Coug rivalry game starting in 2011

(Surely this has been discussed already, but I don't have time to dig for it.)

Once Utah is in the PAC-10/12, which of these scenarios do you think is the most likely fate of the Utah-BYU football game?:

    a. Played every year, the first game of the year for both teams (that could become a pretty cool tradition I think)
    b. Played every year, in September (not necessarily the first game of the year)
    c. Played every year, in Nov./Dec. (after both teams are done with conference play; can you think of other rivalries where this occurs?)
    d. Played every other year
    e. Other

Assuming the PAC will have a championship game, C. seems very unlikely.

    b.

I don't think BYU and Utah will play in 2011 and 2012 because of contracts that both schools already have with other teams already for those seasons.

I just can't get excited about an early season game. Lets take a couple years off and see where we stand.

        c. Don't Clemson & South Carolina play towards the end of the season each year? I'm sure there are others.

Yeah they do. It varies. I think GA/GA Tech and Florida/Florida st. play at the end of the year.

Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

I agree. I think if BYU doesn't get into the Big 12, it may be put off long term.

You can't get excited? The rivalry game being the first game of the year would have the entire off-season upon which to build excitement.

I think this is a terrible idea. I mean, will BYU athletics, let alone BYU football, still be around in a couple of years? That would suck if the rivalry took a few years off and then BYU was gone. Who would be the Utes rival? Yep, I guess it would be USC. Where is the fun in that?

BYU fans tipping over the Sorry board, sending the cards and red and blue pieces flying. Very childish people.

I don't know about Mendenhall, but when KW has time to prepare for a game, his team is ready to play.
