because there's no college baseball category.

The Y got beat by UNLV 9-1 in Game 1 of the MWC tournament. Other than the 1st inning, there was little to no offense by the Cougars.

In Game 2, the Utes beat SDSU 12-6. Just like last year's tournament, the Utes had a huge inning (7 runs in the 4th) and then kept the pressure on enough to score more runs to put the game out of reach in the last couple of innings.

Game 3 tomorrow morning at 11:00 between BYU and SDSU on the mtn and CBS-CS is an elimination game.

Props to the Cougars. They just eliminated SDSU 16-8. BYU put up 6 runs in the top of the 9th to keep it out of reach for the Aztecs.

They will play the loser of either the Utah/TCU or UNLV/UNM game tomorrow.

MWC baseball games seem so nonrobust. A beats B by a huge score, only to get beaten by C, who then is fried by B.

      No consistent domination.

College pitching rotations are lucky to be even one deep.

As Indy pointed out, pitching on the college level isn't going to quiet the bats of the other team very often. Also, the defense behind the pitcher is just as bad as pitching depth.

They should have been gone years ago. I don't get it.

California high schools may be banning them soon. They're so dangerous.

Shoot in softball metal bats are dangerous. Even with the 98 mph bats in our ASA sanctioned softball league those softballs still come hot off the bat. I caught a line drive at 3rd that bruised my palm where my thumb meets it. The pitcher on the team we played against last week wore a face mask.

Metal bats can be detuned to have similar performance characteristics to a wood bat. Unfortunately these bats aren't produced because there isn't a rule to mandate it.

One of the reasons wood bats aren't used is expense. Sure metal bats are expensive. However a top quality wood bat can cost about 1/3 the cost of a good metal bat. I spent a lot of time watching a nephew play JC ball in a league where wood bats were mandated. I watched three of the expensive wood bats break in one inning. The cost of wood bats adds up when a team keeps making firewood out of them.

I'm surprised. They de-tune the bats for softball. These are the 98 mph bats I was referring to. It depends on the league though. Only ASA leagues require them. All the other governing bodies allow "hot" bats. The difference is amazing. Our team used the Miken Freak which was a "hot" bat that got grandfathered into the ASA leagues. That bat would go for several hundred bucks on eBay because of this. You could knock the shit out of the ball with that thing. On the flip side I had the Freak 98. While still a great bat, the ball just didn't jump off the bat like with the original Freak.

This is true. We used wood bats in our fall league and could barely keep up on the cost. We used bats that had fractures or small splits in them all the time.

I love the Freak... In church softball, whichever team has the better bat wins. That is just stupid.

The Freak is great cause you can basically bunt the ball over the fence. I crank the ball every time with the Freak and when the Freak ain't there and I have to use a Walmart Easton, I can swing my heart out and the ball goes 70% as far as the Freak, IF i'm lucky.
