  • Fight On, Radiohead!

    http://www.nbcwashington.com/news/en...t-Grammys.html

Fleetwood Mac, Outkast, and a slew of hollywood classics.....

Looks like radiohead just joined a pretigious list of fans of the Spirit of Troy.

This is bad, bad, bad, and the idea sounds totally cheesy. However, I have yet to see a cheesy Radiohead performance, so I still have faith that this will turn out alright. (Though if anything can make a band do something entirely stupid and out of their character, it's the Grammy's)

Also, I see very little reason to have so much brass in House Of Cards. It seems likely that they will play it since the song is nominated for a couple of awards, but if they are going to turn the song into a full blown extravaganza, it would be much better accompanied by a symphony. There are still rumors that the song will be 15 Step, which would sound much better with a band given its clattering drum beats and all.
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

We thought it would be House of Cards, but indeed it was 15 Step. Won't take my eyes off the ball again....You reel me out and then you cut the string!

PS And what did they warm up with today at the run through with Thom and JG?....TUSK!

Tomorrow is going to be awesome. Fight on!

This was Thom and Jonny's idea? WTF!?!?!

It also appears that the other members of the band aren't there, or at least are performing during 15 Step. 15 Step without Ed's part? Boo!!!!!!!!

I will laugh my ass off if Thom busts out his crazy ass white boy moves at the beginning of the song. Though I'm guessing the song won't be quite as danceable without that heavy programmed beat.

And if I ever got that close to Jonny, I would pass out. I would cry like the ten year old girls that are going to be crying when they see the Jonas Brothers.

Here is why you must tune into the Grammys on Sunday: Radiohead is playing "15 Step" with the USC marching band. I've been told it's okay to talk about this now (somebody else already leaked it), and how I wish all of you could have been here at Staples with me this morning to watch Thom Yorke, Jonny Greenwood, and three dozen elated college kids take an already very good song and turn it into a jubilant, slightly menacing masterpiece. We're talking "I would pay money to buy that off iTunes" good. "I will keep that performance on my DVR to watch on sad days" good. "Please make the song into a vacation resort because I want to go to there good." It is so. cool.
Mad props to the USC kids for their talent and their stylish choreography, but mostly for being totally professional in a situation that would have reduced many grown men to pudding. Their directors just finished making tweaks to the musical arrangement last night, and tomorrow they'll be playing with arguably the best band in the world on national TV, yet they completed take after take of the complicated rhythms with incredible poise. "Ecstatic" is how 19 year old Kelsey Anderson (communications major; bass drum) summed up the feeling of getting this gig. Her eyes had the slightly glassy look you see in people who have recently experienced a religious conversion, or seen the face of God. "I went out and bought In Rainbows on vinyl for Thom to sign. He wrote my name on it. I'm gonna keep it forever." She was highly complimentary of the spiky-haired frontman, with whom they apparently had robot dance-offs in rehearsal. "He's surprisingly down to earth, fun, and amazing to work with," Anderson said. "Some people you think might have big egos, but he doesn't. We we were just in awe of him." As for whether her life has now peaked at 19, she laughed and said, "This is pretty much the coolest thing I've done so far."

Uh, they just came on about 10:15pm est. So I guess that's about 2 hours and 15 minutes into the show.

ok, thanks. It doesnt air on the west coast until 8PM, but I am trying to follow the progress live on the latimes blog.

                    The blurb on radiohead:

7:21 p.m.: Finally! Radiohead + the USC marching band performing "15 Step." It's the performance that should have opened the show. The Sprit of Troy supplied a smattering of rhythms, and Thom Yorke gave the most kinetic performance of the night, shaking and twitching wtih every beat. Johnny Greenwood's guitar parts sent spacey signals through the rhythmic haze.

The performances have all been forgettable. Except M.I.A. rapping in a ridiculous outfit 9 months prego. That is something you just don't forget. Thom's performance was very cool though. The Justin and TI joint was cool too.

Wow, that U2 song is awful. Not a good way to open the show or for any other part of the show. Am I missing something or are the verses simply a ripoff of Subterranean Homesick Blues?

I enjoyed the arrangement. Very different. I think it the brass would sound better in person because much of it was drowned out on TV. The mixing board is set for the house speakers, not for TV broadcasting. The very end of the song with the sustained brass....I think that probably would have been very cool in person.

All in all, not a bad year if you are a member of the SC Spirit of Troy. I wonder how they went about choosing the finalists to appear with the band, given how massive the SC band is. Looks like they all received free in Rainbows t shirts.

gwyneth. yikes. lay off the crack.

RH performance was decent. Would rather have just seen the band play. Jonny is a god.
