  • Should there be a photography sub-forum?

It seems to me that there is enough interest in photography to justify a specific sub-forum on the subject rather than trying to squeeze a lot of different topics into a few threads in The Back Fence.

Or should I clutter up The Back Fence with a bunch of different photography threads until everyone else begs for a new sub-forum?

I can see much more discussion of which camera is best for specific occasions, Photoshop tricks, specific types of photography (sunsets, flowers, people, Etc.), and so on.

And then I wouldn't feel out of line asking for help to get a decent photo of my bougainvillea plant.

What does it take to get new sub-forums added here?

It basically just takes persuading Lebowski to do it. He gave the okay to home improvement, for example, but not to a running forum or to fashion ().

Personally, I think it's better to have fewer forums with more activity, than to have a lot of subject-specific forums that never turn bold.

Actually, you have to convince the Executive Committee. And we are quite reluctant to add new fora. We capitulated on the Fusebox thing only after enduring a long blitzkrieg. That may have been a mistake, but we could always absorb it back in if it continues to languish.

I kind of like the photography threads the way they are.

I think a more useful category would be a private 'creative arts' forum, where writers could workshop their work, where photographers could seek technical advice for photos that are not quite finished, and for any other creative work that could benefit from feedback before public presentation.

There's always been pretty strong consensus that we're not adding anymore private forums. However, you can boardmail several people at a time if you want to solicit feedback without exposing your work to the entire community.

Scott, in that case you'll really only need to persuade creekster. lol.

Truthfully, I probably wouldn't seriously participate in any private forum like the one I suggested. I was mostly just making the point that I don't think we need a whole forum dedicated to photography, and if we were to add new forums, I would like to see them serve some purpose greater than taxonomy.

Thanks for the feedback. At least I know where to post future photo-related threads.

And I've seen what happens on forums with too many sub-forums that don't have any action in them.

Maybe a general subforum called The Gallery, where we could feature the creative efforts of CUF makers. I actually think that would be a cool forum to show off everything form photography, to LDS poetry, to Shaka's guitar and amp making. We could seed it with the photography thread. We have some pretty interesting and creative work going on here, and it would be cool to have a place to formally honor the stuff produced by CUF people.

I think we should have a porn sub forum.

That is just oddly enough worded that I wonder if you mean something dirty by it.

                              The Gallery.

It is a good idea for a new sub-forum. Creative work shouldn't be relegated to 'chit-chat.'
