Just finished this. What an amazing man and story. The cynic in me thinks that there's no way that this guy is all that. If so, he would be the most deserving Nobel Prize winner ever, hands down.

Al Gore is an embarrassment next to Greg Mortenson.

I really need to read that book. My wife has been telling me how great it was for a while. Thanks for the reminder.

My wife just read it last week and loved it. He spoke at the library by our house on Sunday in which she really wanted to go but church at the same time. I told her she would get more out of seeing him speak than church but alas it was fruitless.

You're right, and it's not even close. I'd love to hear this guy speak. He sounds like a very self-effacing guy (contrast Al Gore...) who was a little embarrassed to have his story told, but knew it would bring needed publicity to his cause. I just read his wikipedia entry and with the awards that have been lining up since the book, I would not at all be surprised to see him win the Nobel Prize. And deservedly so.

A friend just dropped this book off at my office this week. From her short re-telling of the story it sounds like a fascinating book. I'm looking forward to reading it.

Just finsished this. Interesting book. PAC recommended this in Tahoe and when I got home my wife had just checked it out of the library, so it became mine for the last week.

In the book, where he is climbing the peak with in the Sierras (which I have climbed btw) with his girlfriend at the time(whom I have met), and then he falls down the glacier and is taken to Bishop to the hospital (where my kids were born) ... I realized this was all about me.

I read it six months ago and really enjoyed it.

I read this book back-to-back with Lone Survivor. Very interesting getting completely opposite perspectives on the area.

This book is sitting on my bookshelf. With all the positive comments, I think I'll make it my next read.

The writing isn't great, but the story is interesting and a fairly quick read.

Just finished this book. What an incredible and inspiring story.

BTW, Greg Mortenson is coming to BYU in late October:

Thanks for the heads up, ER. And I understand that Mortenson has been formally nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize this year by several members of congress. He will certainly get it eventually.

Is he coming or is the book just the topic of the panel discussion? It was unclear. The Kennedy Center does a lot of cool stuff and it seems like a lot of it doesn't get much recognition.

Both. They are doing a panel discussion on the 10/14, but he is speaking to the entire university via a forum in the MC on 10/27.
