How much would Utah or BYU pay to get into the PAC-10 or Big 12?

My thought is it would be worth about 20 million in cash. Your thoughts?

I think $19,999,999.99. Closest to the pin wins.

Not out of endowment funds. Maybe if they could raise it for that specific purpose and it would not otherwise reduce fundraising for academics.

How would fund raising for this hypothetical be any different than standard athletic department fundraising?

Probably isn't except for degree. My interest in DI sports is not without contradiction and misgiving.

This has been an item of discussion here in Eugene recently, with a professor and school president having a go at each other in the local paper.

I thought you may enjoy reading.

I doubt if there's much real economic benefit. Football programs tend to spend what they bring in, unless you're Notre Dame or Ohio State or someone like that. We'd probably bring in an extra $5M or so and probably use it all in costs. There would be a big benefit to fans. That's where you'd look for the benefit. I'd bet you could raise $100M from fans to do it. Fans are dying for a solution like this.

Thanks. I think the president is generally correct. I think there is no danger of a coup by DI sports in academia. It's pretty insignificant in almost every respect in the overall scheme of things.
