• Your favorite Pop Music thread.

So I downloaded a bunch of Killers tunes, all of the 'best of' choices that folks here suggested, and I thought they were all very... nice. But with the exception of Human, none of them are going to enter the pantheon of 'favorite pop music.' What are your favorite pop songs? Here are a few of mine:

Human, The Killers
Hey Yeah!, Outkast
Champagne Supernova, Oasis
I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For, U2
Closer to Fine, Indigo Girls
Yellow, Coldplay
South Side, Moby
The Girl From Ipanema, Stan Getz & Joao Gilberto

How would you define "pop song'? My definition would be Top 40.

That would sum up Robin's list.

It is mostly up to you to define, but generally speaking, songs that have massive popular appeal. The band doesn't have to be a pop band to produce a classic pop song. Outkast's Hey Yeah would be a good example of that.

It is Hey Ya, not Hey Yeah.

It would be impossible for me to make such a list. way too many to include.

Yep, it is Hey Ya!

Hey Ya! has got to epitomize, for me, the perfect pop song. I would consider it to be the best of the best. DDD, why don't you name a couple that you consider to be the best of the best?

Justin Timberlake puts on a hell of a performance. I think that folks who have called him the true heir to Michael Jackson are about right.

The discussion of best pop songs has to start with Michael "The King of Pop" Jackson.

I guess I need to go back a few years to make my picks. Here are four:

M - Pop Musik

Tommy Tutone - Jenny (867-5309)

Greg Kihn Band - The Breakup Song

Sniff 'n the Tears - Driver's Seat

I had to edit to add a 5th

Chilliwack - My Girl

"Pop" has a million connotations. I wouldn't even know where to start.
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

I'm also stunned that you love Human and dismiss other Killers songs. Human is just awful.

Human is a great song! It certainly isn't 'just awful.'

But there is the risk in listing favorite pop songs. You can get judged by the popular music you like. Pop just stands for 'popular,' no? So just name a few of your all-time favorite popular songs, stuff with massive appeal.
