  • Kaveinga transfer

Uona Kaveinga, who chose USC over BYU in 2008, is thinking about transferring to BYU afterall, according to some guy on CB (yes, I went back there for the first time in a long time today, in order to get the scoop on Quezada). Apparently it's not news that he wants to transfer somewhere, but that would be a pretty big get if there's any truth to it. Near as I can tell, he'd sit next year and play '11 and '12. He was ranked the #9 WOLB out of high school.

Anybody here heard anything from a different source on this?

I've heard this rumor, but it wasn't from a reliable source.

Coach Bronco talks Kaveinga without mentioning names:

Could USC linebacker be transferring to BYU?
        Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

Same here. In fact, my source was pretty unreliable.

I heard it too. But the guy I heard it from is not only unreliable but a total <redacted>!

Drew tweets that he is indeed looking to transfer to BYU and would have to pay his own way at first. My question is, why wouldn't they just give him a schollie?

BYU is out of mid year scholarships. If and when a scholarship opens up it will go to Kaveinga.

So does this mean he'd pay a max of one semester on his own dime?

That's what it sounds like. If someone were to transfer, quit or be kicked out, he most likely would get their scholarship. Heck, maybe even if someone were to leave early for the NFL. Not sure where the scholarship will come from but my guess is as soon as one opens up it is Kaveinga's.

Hell yes. Pendleton, Kaveinga, Van Noy... I'm liking the look of our young LB corps...

..and don't forget Stout. Could be one of the best linebacking corps around. I like it!

There are a lot of things they can do to help him out with governments grants and federal aid. It happens at all schools so I don't think he will be paying for all of it on his own. I am sure they will be able to find some financial aid he won't have to pay back.

Questions on Kaveinga: he played two years at USC, so he has three to play two, right? Did he redshirt at USC or did he play both years? What was his playing time like? How do the USC faithful see this transfer? As a guy stuck in the depth chart leaving to get some PT no big deal it frees up a schollie or a future contributor/star leaving that really might hurt?

Don't bother answering this if you have less than 30 posts.
