I am wondering whether everyone is overlooking CSU as the natural geographic pairing for Colorado? I haven't really considered it but it does make some sense.
Inviting Colorado and TCU makes no sense from a pairing perspective.
Bringing in Utah and Colorado might be a winner (Salt Lake City and Denver markets), and at least one Pac-10 athletic director said that's the most likely scenario.
There's no reason why Utah and BYU couldn't keep their annual rivalry game at the end of the season, like Florida/FSU.

For which league, the Pac 10 or Big 10?
I could see the Colorado government only allowing Colorado to leave if they take CSU too. A la Virginia Tech to the ACC (care of Virginia) or Baylor to the Big 12.
As for CSU in the Big 12, they don't seem to care about pairing too much.
If either conference expands would they not want to break in to more than 1 market? Possibly taking Utah and Colorado to the Pac-10 so you get the SLC market and the Denver market?
Instead of taking both BYU and Utah and you only get 1 market.
