  • I have been very hard on Jaime Hill

I have to give him credit tonight. The D came in and played well and he put together a great game plan for this game.

Wynn's inability to hit anyone deep helped as well.

Seriously. If Wynn completed 2 of those throws to David Reed we would have been in a deep doo doo.

I credit our lock down corners. And Winn isn't a winner.

Their WR's were open all night. Wynn couldn't hit them. It was good to get some pressure on a QB, though.

Wynn doesn't strike much fear in me for the future. He'll get better, but only because he can't get much worse. Plus the way he runs out of bounds on those QB scrambles makes him appear to be one of those soft prima dona type QB's (think John Beck for most of his career).

I got to be honest but I think he did a good job this year. I know you thought he did not use Jan properly, but I think he used Jan best for his team. It won't break my heart if he moves on as I think his catankarous nature is just counterproductive to BYU succes. BYU needs an AA who can help non LDS AA kids, not alienate them. Attrition is a huge enemy to BYU. Saying that, he put a good defense on the field every game but FSU, parts of SDSU and TCU (who I think was just flat out better). He did it with lackluster MLBs and only one talented OLB, who is in first year of playing OLB in his life, and a rebuilt secondary. I stand in the camp who thinks Jaimie Hill did an admirable job as BYU's DC this year. I think that BYU will be young on DL and LB next year, but I think the talent improvement at LB will be significant. I think the DL will be of a similar talent level just lack the experience.

Hell, his defense has helped BYU to its big wins the past 3 years as in all the big wins Hall had some memorable moments but not really a good performance - save beating a .500 TCU squad in '07.

Except for last year which I think the program got caught with its pants down and perhaps a bit arrogant, methinks that Jaimie Hill has put the best 4 year run of BYU defensive backfields I have seen. Perhaps some of those backfields in the late 90's might rival it. He is an ass but I think he is a good defensive football coach and I think the program has benefitted from him being in Provo.

I bet he develops into a great qb and leads Utah to at least one memorable season over the next three years.

I noticed that too. He left an extra 4-5 available yards each time he went out of bounds. Strange.

Honestly, I think that hit on the first drive made him hesitant.

Wynn got hit many times last night. Pendleton rocked him on that first drive though.

I'm not sure if our defense was really good or really lucky. Our DB's played better than they have most of the year, but Wynn missed a lot of open receivers. He hits just a couple of those, and the outcome would have been completely different.

Sure. Ditto if Max hits a few open receivers.

Either way, both teams played great defense.

What I think is funny is that the Utes had underneath receivers open all night, but Wynn kept going deep and missing. One of the knocks on Cain was that he just threw short underneath passes and couldn't stretch the defense, but I think he would have done a much better job yesterday than Wynn did.
