Why do you think it wouldn't be good for Utah? The one thing that won't change is the Rose Bowl taking the Pac-12 vs the B1G. If Utah wins the PAC-12 they are going to the Rose Bowl. If there is a year where they are say 11-1 or 10-2 and the PAC-12 champ is not in the champ game there is pretty good odds they would go to the fiesta bowl. Other than that its the bowls PAC-12 worked out. What would really change for them?"Be a philosopher. A man can compromise to gain a point. In a situation like this, I see it working out well for the major conferences and badly for everyone else. It will go back to the system where everything is locked in at the conference level ahead of time.Originally posted by Mormon Red Death View PostWhy do you think it wouldn't be good for Utah? There may also be some unintended consequences. Possible consequences:Originally posted by jay santos View PostIn a situation like this, I see it working out well for the major conferences and badly for everyone else. 1. ND & Rutgers would probably join the B1G.
2. The PAC would make another run at Texas and/or Oklahmoma.
3. The SEC & B1G would lock down the current BCS bowls (3 a piece). A sample:
Orange ACC v Big12 or SEC
Sugar SEC v B1G
Cotton SEC v Big 12
Fiesta Big12 v B1G/PAC12
4. The BCS champ game would be like the superbowl and could end up in places like Detroit, Indy, Tampa, Dallas, Jacksonville maybe even Toronto as it would just be bid upon to the highest bidder.
5. Even more irrelevance for the non big 5 conferences."Be a philosopher. A man can compromise to gain a point. It has become apparent that a man can, within limits, follow his inclinations within the arms of the Church if he does so discreetly." - The Walking Drum

Correct. Joining the Big East in this scenario is just like joining CUSA. Kinda is anyway, but it would be worse after this proposed BCS change. BYU needs a real conference and how.Originally posted by jay santos View PostIn a situation like this, I see it working out well for the major conferences and badly for everyone else. If this indeed becomes the case I am totally against BYU to the BE. IF the AQ system continues the benefits of the BE out weigh independence. But if it is gone, independence is better. BYU, and Boise for that matter, in the BE is not a long term or sustainable solution.Originally posted by LiveCoug View PostThis, I believe, would be horrible for the BE and BYU

That shtick you do where you remind BYU fans that they're small time and you know because you're a fan of a big time program. That is so interesting and compelling. You should do it a few times every day.Originally posted by TripletDaddy View PostI guess I don't mind it as much as all of you. I don't see much that will change for BYU.

Don't worry guys, the East Coast Media will never let this happen. They have a stranglehold on the BCS and will protect the B-East at all costs.
I mean come on! The B-East is a FOUNDING member of the BCS with a long unchanging tradition that goes back all the way to 1998. There's too much tradition there the sever ties.

While I have no doubt Rutgers would join the Big 10 if invited, why exactly would the Big 10 invite Rutgers?Originally posted by Mormon Red Death View PostThere may also be some unintended consequences. Possible consequences:

You are a lovable Moran who doesn't travel to away games very much, if at all, so I can forgive you for not knowing or caring much about our week to week opponents. Also, since BYU has historically played in pretty much the same bowls over and over, I don't see why this new proposal would change much of anything.Originally posted by jay santos View PostThat shtick you do where you remind BYU fans that they're small time and you know because you're a fan of a big time program. They wouldn't.. With Paterno gone and his constant belly aching of a eastern foe is no longer an issue.....Originally posted by Pelado View PostWhile I have no doubt Rutgers would join the Big 10 if invited, why exactly would the Big 10 invite Rutgers?
Rutger fans want it badly.. Hoping each conference blow up will bring them closer to it.. I just don't see it. Not with Jim Delaney at the helm...

There was an article in the big12 expansion groundswell about how Notre Dame would want them due to New York and how they had the biggest ratings out of all the big east teams.Originally posted by Pelado View PostWhile I have no doubt Rutgers would join the Big 10 if invited, why exactly would the Big 10 invite Rutgers?
Getting the B1G ten network on basic cable in New York would be a gigantic revenue maker. If you do a google search one could make an argument that they have just as much written on them joining the B1G as byu has on joining the big 12."Be a philosopher. A man can compromise to gain a point. It has become apparent that a man can, within limits, follow his inclinations within the arms of the Church if he does so discreetly." - The Walking Drum

The big question that I have is who breaks ties when the Conference Commisioner and the Presidential Oversight Committee Vote splits 6-6. If they simply fail without 7 votes, then it will be hard to get rid of the B-East's AQ status, if the Executive Director is the tie-breaker, then they could easily get rid of it.
Of course my guess is it would be easy to change the governance of the BCS by a simple vote of all school presidents.
Also, if the Big East raids the MWC, the MWC is likely to raid the WAC which has a good chance of dying. This would reduce the non-AQ members by one.

Because none of them would even consider for a nano-second bolting the Beast for independence.Originally posted by myboynoah View PostI'm still not feeling it, my friend. Why would BYU want to join a league from which most of the current members would bolt in a nano-second? This seems like it could be a disaster and few writers are even considering this angle.
