USC fans and the USC program should be up in arms over this. It is a complete joke.Originally posted by Surfah View PostI cannot believe this. USC fans have to be livid. And you know who else? TCU. TCU would be in a the MNC game against Oregon if the NCAA upheld their original decision. And that is why he's eligible. If Auburn weren't the #1 team in the country and Cam the overwhelming Heisman favorite then I have to believe they'd get the hammer. This seriously makes me sick."Take it to the Bank"

Cam: Hey, dad, check out all these schools I want to attend.
Cecil: Not now son, Im trying to get you into Mississippi State.
Cam: Why?
Cecil: I cant tell you and dont ask me any questions.
Cam: OK, sounds good. Let me know where I will be playing college ball. I have no input on the matter and am not the slightest bit curious why you are talking to the Bulldogs.

Cecil: Change of plans. Mississippi State is out.
Cam: Why? I really wanted to play for MSU.
Cecil: Things didn't work out with MSU.
Cam: So where am I playing football?
Cecil: Auburn University. The deal was too good to turn down.

That's the thing though. Parts of that post are already true. The NCAA has already acknowledged that Cecil Newton used a recruiting service to solicit his son in a play for pay scheme. They said that. They're just saying Cam didn't know about it so he's eligible. Bullshit.Originally posted by Flystripper View Postwow...simply wow. That is a very very poor precedent to set. Won't be the first time. But to be fair to the NCAA, investigations take time and the NCAA does not have subpoena power. The NCAA best chances of making a case against Auburn is to let the FBI investigation conclude and then base their case on testimony and evidence from the FBI inestigation.Originally posted by Flystripper View Postwow...simply wow. By then Cam Newton will be playing in the NFL, possibly for several years. If this stuff is true, I don't see how Auburn avoids a death penalty like sentence. Just hope South Carolina or Oregon defeats them so the NCAA isn't faced with a messy * for the 2010 National Championship.
The Heisman voting will be interesting though.“Not the victory but the action. Not the goal but the game. In the deed the glory.”

On second thought - I agree. Never mind the other post about investigations take time, etc. Cam Newton should have been ruled ineligible. And if Auburn is not undefeated, I'd bet Cam would be ruled ineligible. TCU should be really pissed about this. Maybe South Carolina will administer some justice.Originally posted by Surfah View PostThat's the thing though. Parts of that post are already true. What is the line in Vegas right now? Smart money is on South Carolina this weekend as the refs are likely in on the fix.Originally posted by Paperback Writer View PostOn second thought - I agree. Not that I care to give them their due, but NCAA investigations do take time. The NCAA has no subpoena power and like you said their evidence is probably wholly dependent on the FBI's investigation. Where the NCAA effed up royally is in releasing any kind of statement at all, declaring Cam ineligible secretly and then rescinding his suspension upon Auburn's appeal the next day. The NCAA should have said nothing pending the outcome of the investigation. They stepped in it and opened a can of worms by acknowledging that Cecil Newton violated their amateurism rules. What's the point in stating that at this point with the addendum that the investigation is ongoing?Originally posted by Paperback Writer View PostOn second thought - I agree. Regardless who is going to buy that Cam had no knowledge? And if Cam didn't go to Miss State because they balked at Cecil's $180k demand who's going to believe that he went to Auburn, who has blood all over their hands already, for free? And what about Cam's supposed statement that "the money was too good"? This whole thing is stupid. If I were USC I'd be appealing today. And if you're UNC and Butch Davis you have to be dancing in the street."Nobody listens to Turtle."-Turtlesigpic
