They need to be able to make a splash after the first few weeks of the year to draw attention back to them. With no TCU, Utah, or BYU they need help overcoming their MWC schedule and MTN exposure.

Yes! Utah in the PAC means permanent residence in the Vegas Bowl while BYU in the B12 means residence in the Cotton Bowl.

      • In light of the the Big 12 going to 14 rumor (remnants of Big East + BYU), the BYU and BSU deal could possibly make sense. In a 7 team division, perhaps each team would play less than 9 league games (6 intradivision games, plus one or two rivalry / cross division games).

I don't know how these 14 or 16 leagues would work but wonder if the scheduling would allow more non-league games.

Other possibility, aside from BYU's continued independence, is that BYU and BSU are both going to the Big 12 (I doubt this).

The BSU deal makes sense regardless of what happens in conference realignment. If we stay independent, we have a low-cost regional game against a team with a national brand. If we join the Big 12 without BSU, we can void the contract. If we join the Big 12 with BSU, the contract becomes moot. There is no real downside to this contract, especially since the road games will be easy for me to attend.

You think byu will regularly be the 2nd place team in the B12?

Good point - BYU to the Fiesta.

Home-and-home series vs. Washington State in 2012 (Provo) and 2013 (Pullman).

                • With Washington State, the Cougars' 2012 opponents are:

                  Georgia Tech
                  Weber State
                  Utah
                  Boise State
                  Utah State
                  Oregon State
                  Notre Dame
                  Hawaii
                  Idaho
                  Washington State
                  New Mexico State
                  San Jose State

That makes five BCS opponents, one very good non-BCS opponent, two respectable non-BCS opponents (I place USU and Hawaii here), and four lower-level teams (I keep SJSU down here until they show otherwise).

Having GT, Utah, ND and BSU all be away games will present a challenge, but I think it's a pretty good schedule for the second year of independence.

I wish that would have been Provo/Seattle instead of Pullman.

Didn't the Oregon State game get canceled?

                            Rescheduled, right?
