  • Cat fight in the desert - BYU vs Arizona 2025

Things are getting real now. This will be a good test. I would feel more confident if our start linebackers were more healthy. But here we go.

Glasker will likely play, Kelly may wait for the Utah game.

Great news. Kind of shocked Utah could still be in play for Kelley.

Same. I think it will be great if he can play vs Utah but I’ll still be surprised if it happens.

The doofus sitting behind us said, "It's just a shoulder injury--he'll be playing by the Utah game." As if they're simply a minor injury! And he might be right.

If Dampier has to run more than 15 times against Arizona State we might not need Kelly against Utah

This made me wonder how Dampier and Bachmeier compare so far (using google’s AI). It’s pretty close.

Dampier has 55 rushing attempts to Bachmeier’s 49.

2025 season stats (current) Dampier Bachmeier
                Passing yards 1,027 1,048
                Passing touchdowns 11 7
                Interceptions 3 1
                Rushing yards 258 206
                Rushing touchdowns 2 5
                Total touchdowns 13 12
                Passer rating 148.7 154.8
Total offense per game N/A 215 yards

Injury report out. Glasker probable, Kelly Doubtful.

                        I'd say that's a positive sign

It doesnt surprise me that their number of rushes are somewhat similar. But some context that I think shows dampier is more exposed given how each OC is using their guy:

                          1. BYU has allowed 7 more sacks than utah. So instead of Dampier having 6 more Rushing attempts than Bear it's actually 13.

                          2. I haven't watched a lot of Utah football but my impression is Utah is calling more designed runs that expose dampier to open field hits within a few yards of the line of scrimmage than BYU. But I could be totally wrong on that impression.

                          3. Most importantly we have been informed by the media that Bear is a Centaur. 220 lb vs 205. That makes a difference.

                            2. I haven't watched a lot of Utah football but my impression is Utah is calling more designed runs that expose dampier to open field hits within a few yards of the line of scrimmage than BYU. But I could be totally wrong on that impression. Early on this was true, but they have dialed it back a bit. Whittingham said after the first game that they couldn't keep running him like they did that game.

                            3. Most importantly we have been informed by the media that Bear is a Centaur. 220 lb vs 205. That makes a difference. Maybe. Not sure size is always a predictor of injuries. And 15 pounds isn't that much of a difference.
Responses above. Not arguing at all, and I certainly don't have a crystal ball. I hope both can stay healthy all season.

According to ESPN, Bear has been sacked 4 times this season and Dampier 3 times
