    We were lucky last year.

Geez, what a bunch of self-loathing neurotics on this board.
We are going to the Final Four and the College Football Playoff this year. Just doing my part to increase the average testicular fortitude of the board.

We had some great finishes last year. That was a lot of fun.

Of all of the bad rankings/lists, this one has to take the cake. Mike Gundy at #9? .658 record in the B12 with several overperforming teams. Dillingham has had a grand total of one good season in his entire life as head coach and he's number #1? This is basically a list of how teams finished last season. That's it.

Are you a Ute fan? That’s something a Ute fan would say. KW is an amazing coach. But last year was not his first bad season.

No but I am a realist. Whitt has had a stellar career, I know by how much he made me hate him. I can’t remember too many shitty seasons for Whitt coached Utah. But no, I did not bother to look it up.

Just because it's the off-season, spring-camp has ended, and there isn't much football to discuss, I bothered to look it up.

I now pollute this board with Whit's record as a head coach:
Year Conference Overall Recordl Conference Record
                  2005 MWC 7–5 4–4
                  2006 MWC 8–5 5–3
                  2007 MWC 9–4 5–3
                  2008 MWC 13–0 8–0
                  2009 MWC 10–3 6–2
                  2010 MWC 10–3 7–1
                  2011 PAC12 8–5 4–5
                  2012 PAC12 5–7 3–6
                  2013 PAC12 5–7 2–7
                  2014 PAC12 9–4 5–4
                  2015 PAC12 10–3 6–3
                  2016 PAC12 9–4 5–4
                  2017 PAC12 7–6 3–6
                  2018 PAC12 9–5 6–3
                  2019 PAC12 11–3 8–1
                  2020 PAC12 3–2 3–2
                  2021 PAC12 10–4 8–1
                  2022 PAC12 10–4 7–2
                  2023 PAC12 8–5 5–4
                  2024 BIG12 5–7 2–7

In 2008 they went undefeated won the Sugar Bowl and finished #2 in the AP poll - that middle finger given to the Utes by the media voters will stand for eternity. That was the best season in their history AFAIK (under Urban they went 12-0 in 2004 and won the Fiesta Bowl but finished ranked #4 in the AP poll).

The first 7 years in the P12 were rough. From 2011 to to 2017 they went 28-35 in conference play with multiple 3-win conference seasons. So in Whit's 20 seasons so far as head coach they had 6 losing or 50/50 (i.e. non-winning) records in conference. That's a 30% conference non-winning-record rate and 3 seasons with overall losing records for a 10% season-losing record rate. Under Whit they've gone to 16 bowl games, with a 10-6 record in those games.

Only 3 losing seasons in 20 years, all 5-7. Pretty solid.

If Curtis Brown catches a wheel route on the first play from scrimmage in the 2005 Holy War, Whit finishes his first year post Urban at 5-7 and is immediately on the hot seat. No bowl win to build on, so he can’t afford to redshirt fishface Johnson the next year, and 2008 perfect season never happens. Adios P12 invite.

Whit was legitimately 1 play from having a 4-6 year run, bring canned, and heading to Montana State to coach 1AA. He’s mid. (But so is Kalani).

This is very true. KW is obviously an elite defensive coach in college football. But what has kept him mid as a head coach is sabotaging his offense by (1) selfishly hoarding all the raw talent possible on the defensive side of the ball and (2) meddling on the offensive side of the ball that he doesn't understand to the point that he ruins quarterbacks and keeps self-respecting established offensive coaches from staying long in SLC. Maybe he will get lucky and JaBeck will be the next big thing in CFB and carry them to an epic rebound season. But my guess is after the second conference loss KW will again be his overbearing self and make things worse.
