BYU is a better team than Kansas. We just snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. It was awful but we were due for a letdown. Too many games where we played at the level of the competition and the eeked out a victory.

Before the season started I expected us to be only marginally better and they have outperformed all rational expectations

    still hurts though.
Surprisingly, ESPN's FPI had BYU and Kansas rated just a few spots away from each other, even before the game. After the game, Kansas stayed at the same ranking, and BYU dropped by only three. In effect, ESPN's FPI saw the results of the game and said, "Yeah, we kinda thought that all along."

Of note, those same FPI ratings now put Kansas at 29, BYU at 30, and ASU at 31.

Sagarin, meanwhile, currently puts BYU at 22, Kansas at 27, and Arizona State at 30.

    Really bummed about saturday.

There were some positives, however. Our defense played well against an offense that put up points and yards the last month.

I think we became victims of a game script with thin margins for error.

We wanted to keep their D on the field, which by and large we succeeded at. But between two long drives resulting in 3 points and a fluke pooch punt, we just didn't do enough to secure the win.

ASU is waiting, though. And they're gonna be tough.

Not to pile on but Batty needs to stop that stupid flopping every time an opposing player bumps him after the whistle. He did it again last night and the fans around me actually booed him.

There are now at least 3 games where he has flopped and they are so obvious he looks like a complete moron and not once has he drawn out a flag.

Yeah, Kalani said it in his post-game.

Also, a thought just came to mind: does Retzlaff have the touch needed to throw an effective screen?
    Yep. Saw the same thing.

He definitely struggles with touch on a fade.

I think we can win out the conference schedule. However, they need to bring some new stuff to the table that ASU can't see on game film.

He's obviously become predictable in some way that defensive coordinators have figured him out. We've progressively scored fewer points each week from the high of 41 against Arizona (38, 37, 22, 13). Do you have confidence they can score enough points to beat ASU? I don't given the last couple off weeks.

This is a good team. They've had some breaks that have gotten them to 9 wins though. Looking back it seems unreasonable to expect Retzlaff current abilities to bring an undefeated season. Defenses are batting down more of his passes. He's been scouted. Some passes are just terrible. I look to see improvement in the off season.

Use them in the middle where the defense is lacking a blitzing linebacker or safety. Or run them outside when sending Darius and Chase into the middle. Also, middle screens should be an effective way to counter the blitz.

This season BYU's offense has only played good enough to win....barely. I think Roderick has done a good job but sometimes he gets in a rut. I may have uttered naughty language when, on third down and six or seven, on the last drive, he ran an option to the boundary side. Of course it got stuffed. We run far too often on third and more than three yards to go.
