  • Jayhawk Tuah: Official BYU v. Kansas Thread

This is going to be a fun game. Under the lights against a dangerous Kansas team. Kansas has a great offense and our defense will be tested. Our offense should be able to keep up just fine if a shootout arises. Coming off such an emotional win this game would normally make me nervous, but this Cougar team is built different. The ROC will be loud and the Vampire Cougs will light it up.

I'm curious how the weather will affect things. I hope Martin, Ropati, and Moa have great games.

Yeah I didn't think about that. That looks like a pretty frigid night.

Reason is telling me this is a dangerous game, but I have a feeling that BYU wins this one by 2-3 scores.

My son and wife are bailing to head home after the hoops game. But I and my twins are going to to brave it - we got the bug and this has the chance to be another special night in the most specialist of years. It is a great time to be alive! I even thought of my old deceased Pops as WhereThereIsAWILLThereisAWay Ferrin's kicked split the uprights on Sunday morning. LFG!

Based on recent history I am probably too optimistic about home night games. I am always pretty confident.

That is a dangerous game, but far less dangerous than making that same prediction for a game with decades of recent evidence against its likelihood. (Yeah, I'm looking at all you short-memoried homers who predicted BYU would go into RES and win by multiple scores. I can appreciate the optimism, but it's silly in the face of what we know about how BYU performs against Utah.) All that was missing last week from absolutely ensuring a close game was a stone-cold lock was cougjunkie coming on here and making his once-annual sports bro rant about why this year was going to be different and we were going to win by 40.

Allow me some artistic license a la CJ. In real life, I was telling everyone it would be a one score game.

                  Bravo on the thread title.

I watched Kansas beat the crap out of Iowa State last week, they look scary good. However, the two recent games in which we had to come from behind to win had some things in common. First they were coached by maybe the two best (historically) coaches in the conference. Second, in both games those coaches had two weeks to prepare and historically both of those coaches very rarely lose with 2 weeks prep. Third, in both those games, those coaches were attempting to salvage a lost season and could throw the kitchen sink at us risk free. Fourth, in both games BYU coaches did not know which QB they'd be facing (Utah and OSU) and even if they had, there was almost no film on them. As good as Daniels is, Jay Hill has 9 games of film on him this season and he knows what we're in for. I feel like when he's had that luxury (surprisingly not a ton this season) it shows and I think he comes with an effective game plan.

Kansas is good enough to break the streak, but the more I think about it, the more this feels like UCF than it does OSU/Utah. Kansas for whatever reason has not managed a road win yet this season. I don't think LES is the place where it's likely to happen.

I wondered how good Kansas was when they lost to UNLV at home early in the season. Then UNLV did pretty well against BSU and, not to mention, kicked Houston and lost to Syracuse in a scorefest overtime game. Kansas has the advantage of having our old o-line/OC coach, Jeff Grimes, running their offense, so he is quite familiar with the kind of football we do. However, Kansas is a good team that likes to lose so BYU by a couple of scores.

I’m still laughing at you being furious with BYU fans during halftime of the Utah game last week.

For the record, my rant happened in the 3rd quarter. Right after BYU called a timeout to preserve a [checks notes] 3rd and 13 from becoming a 3rd and 18. God Bless Kalani Sitake, but his usage of timeouts is worse than Bronco's, which I didn't think was possible.

All of our remaining games are dangerous. KU has bounced back from a rough start. Jayden Daniels is a dual threat QB, who I think will play on Sundays.

Houston knocked off KSU. And the second biggest surprise in the B12 is ASU. Leavitt can sling it. Skattebo is a one-man wrecking crew.

                            And we’re down 2-3 o-linemen.

                              Which ones?

Pay and Keim are both listed on the roster for this week.
