  • Saturday Night Special: Kansas State vs. Brigham Young

    It’s the 2024 conference opener!

As BYU football fans, the fabric of our lives is woven with memories of the last time BYU played a top-15-ranked Kansas State team. Now the #13-ranked Wildcats come to Provo to play the undefeated Cougars for the first time as Big 12 conference mates.

The Wildcats run the ball really well. They average almost seven yards per carry and almost 250 rushing yards per game. Part of the running threat comes from QB Avery Johnson, who apparently still has some eligibility remaining after playing point guard for Southern U in the 1980s.

BYU’s defense continues its rise under Jay Hill but will have its toughest test of the season to date. On offense, Cougar fans will hope for improvement from Jake Retzlaff with accuracy and ball security and for some solution to the RB situation.

    “Mister Saturday Night Special

We’ve got a stadium that’s blue and cold

    That ain’t good for nothing

But putting opponents in a scoring hoooooole . . .”

    Let’s go, Cougars!
