Yeah, I thought the same but they made up for last week, I guess. It is crazy that Georgia is bumped out of the playoff bracket but it's not over until it is over.

    • Houston doesn’t look very good at all tonight against Arizona. If they play like this in two weeks in Provo, BYU could have a field day.

      • Arizona state whoopin KSU right now. That’s going to be a tough one.

        • Something on my mind is that this may be the only "good" BYU team led by an average D1 QB. This is not some irrational call to bench Retzlaff-I think he is the best QB BYU has for this year and next and I have been impressed, at times, with how he has played this year. However, with 10 games of evidence I think the data indicates he isn't a great college QB. If BYU wins 2 more games this year that would give them 11 wins and IMO that makes this BYU team a legitimately good NCAA team-especially with the schedule it plays of Big-12 teams. I don't think any other legitimately "good" BYU team was led by a QB as average as Retzlaff. IMO that is an indicator that BYU is recruiting and developing players well. I know Saturday night sucked but there is a lot to be excited about wrt the future of BYU football, IMO. Saying that, I have been there before thinking this staff had finally put together a program that could be consistently competitive at the Big-12 type levels and then I was let down.

I'm choosing to mostly ignore your fatuity here and instead overwhelm you with so much data that you'll maybe, just maybe, realize that you have reams to read on this subject before you can contribute meaningfully to any conversation on this topic.

I think this is right on point. Retzlaff has been a great leader and a much better QB than anyone had any right to expect this year. I'm glad we have him for one more season. But I'd be pleasantly surprised if his tools got him a Sunday paycheck. The way everything has come together around him is a testament to the strength of the program Kalani has built.

I think he's still making good decisions for the most part, but his accuracy has declined a little bit lately.

              • This is the knock that people need to be raising for A-Rod. The complaints about playcalling are as silly as they are self-contradictory; he's too predictable except for when he gets too cute, he should have thrown the ball instead of running except in the identical situation when he should have run instead of throwing, etc. But it is hard to understand how it is we were not able to recruit better talent at QB after sending two straight starters into the NFL (and sorta three, if you count Slovis).

The problem is even harder to understand when you look around at the number of LDS quarterbacks thriving in other systems. It's not like the talent is not out there. How is it that we could not manage to get even one of them?

                • I've been thinking about Retzlaff too. We have three touchdowns in the last twenty six drives Jake has a QB rating that is about half of a broken back Riley Nelson. At what point do you give Bohanon a shot? I'm not calling for his benching either but it makes you think....

There is no point where you give the backup to a 9-1 QB a shot.

                    • Worst part of that game was knowing that in spite of sub par QB play, BYU still likely wins that game if not for the flukey punt off the helmet thing.

Thinking about what Saban did in the NC game a few years ago with FR Tua Tuagolovia, or whatever his name is, causes me to reflect. My edited answer is I don't know but people who know more than me apparently do.

                          • My big 12 tiebreaker spreadsheet tells me with a utah win over Iowa State tonight, BYU would again control their destiny to get to the conference championship game (thanks to colorado losing). Is this correct?

I think I still prefer a Utah loss and a little help next week to get in.

Well I'd prefer RES is razed to the ground and utah athletics ceases to exist. But if a utah win tonight puts BYU's destiny back in their own hands prior to kickoff against houston, a utah win will be tolerated.
