  • Updated FPI probabilities:

74% chance of making the conference championship game (it's probably higher than this; 74 is just the chance of 11 wins).
39% chance of winning the conference
59% chance of making the CFP

    • I hope a portion of this week's game prep will include things like (i) when on offense making substitutions far enough in advance so that the defense can't mosey in just before the play clock expires, and (ii) how to get set and spike the ball in less than, say, thirty seconds. What other things would you have them work on?

Except for horrific time management, I thought the team played very well overall and there aren't any glaring weaknesses.

Running the damn ball on second and one yard.
        Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

        • I hadn't seen Kalani's post-game speech until I watched The Cut last night:

          THE CUT: Utah

The whole thing is great as usual; the portion with Kalani's speech to the team starts at 13:15. Outsiders may find it totally cheesy and performative. But when KS talks this way, I think he is completely sincere. Part of it may be that he doesn't wear the religion itself overtly on his sleeve all the time, and instead focuses on the core principle of his religion that no one should take issue with: loving each other and your neighbor (including your rival). While I want to tear my hair out weekly at his clock management skills, I absolutely love the culture KS has built in BYU football and I love that he constantly throws it back to what he learned from Saint Lavell.

I haven't watched The Cut in its entirety yet but I did see his comments on the post-game show. He quoted Hellmann's 5:12 which was really helpful for me since I hadn't prepared my Primary lesson yet. So my Valiant 8 class got to hear about the game and building a foundation on the rock of Jesus.

He is what I think Bronco wanted to be but Bronco was just too awkward socially and had to try too hard. I think this really is Kalani's core.

Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

                          • Up to #6 in the CFP rankings. I'm actually shocked as I thought the committee would punish us for the near loss to utah. This is huge as the path to an at large bid as a one loss team is realistic now.

That's what I was thinking. Need to say as high as possible. I was going to be happy with 7. This is awesome. The BIG and SEC bias is .
